Fubuki is a Special Type Destroyer who has just been assigned to the Naval District. With a grand total of zero battles under her belt, she's sure to sink fast under the pressure of expectation. Luckily, she's grouped with Torpedo Squadron Three, and they're ready to support their new comrade. Together, they'll prove they have what it takes to defend the ocean and win it all for humanity!

An absurd premise (it's anime) that absolutely works and is fun to watch
Girls as personifications of warships.... yep. It's anime alright. The show was fun to watch, and so was the half-baked attempt at having it make sense. However, the enjoyment more than made up for the obvious plot holes and such. Just throw out your understanding of physics and biology, and just sit back and enjoy this fun show.

Mindless fun, amusing historical references.
Based off a browser game, this anime isn't keen on compelling plot with complex characters. What it DOES do is provide some good ol' fashioned explosions and cute characters. If you have some knowledge of Japanese naval history you'll enjoy some of the character quirks and references. Kongou uses some English because the real battleship Kongou was built in England for the Japanese, Ooi and Kitakami are always together(and *really* in to each other) because the real ships spent the entire war side-by-side, Yuudachi's battle rig has a sail on it as a reference to the real ship's final battle, et cetera. If you want to see cute girls carry 40,000 tons of battle equipment on their backs and bomb the Hell out of aliens and fling torpedoes while doing ballet spins, this is the show to watch.

This is a complete review of the anime based off a popular Japanese game. The plot is basic and absurd but the characters are endearing. The animation is also solid. Both the English and Japanese tracks are well acted. This is an anime to watch if you want to relax.

Anime way to WWII in the Pacific.
Watched this over a year ago on YouTube and when the opportunity came to purchase I just jumped on it. Girls in "rigs" with the names of Japanese warships of WWII. You have some wild humor and it just goes along with the "Girls und Panzers" themes.

Not for those that like a lot of backstory or logic...
I purchased this on a whim. I didn't know it was based on some sort of mobile game in Japan nor did I delve into the background. It was an impulse buy. To be honest I saw u tube videos that occasionally featured high school fleet and thought this was it. I watched this and realized this wasn't that. So if you are new to all this let me try and explain (hopefully without sounding to weird). There is high-school fleet which is about Japanese girls on warships fighting evil doers. You have this series which is about Japanese girls who represent the spirits of japanese warships and they jetski around shooting torpedoes and canons at the bad guys who are taking over the sea lanes. There is another series exploding in popularity called azure lane (I think I got that name right) but I haven't got ino that one yet. Anyway now that we have the players right hopefully we can avoid confusing which girls are saving the sea lanes, how and where and from what. Now onward. I am reluctant to admit I actually enjoyed this series. The voice actors were good and the episodes have their moments. Do not go into this thinking there is a logical storyline or coherent detailed backstory. If I were describing this thing to someone... hmm. There are people who love Godzilla movies and many that don't. There are those that love slasher movies but others not so much. Zombie movies are also pretty much love them or hatem. You either like it and entertained by those types of movies or your not. I think this series falls into that category. Take a vacation from your brain, sit down and watch this series and enjoy it... or not. At $20 its inexpensive for an anime. (Those other anime I mentioned earlier average $100 per season. Ouch). Couple of other things. Don't go into this expecting great dialogue.. "Prepare for an offensive attack" pops up a few times. I guess its distinguished from unoffensive attacks? I should also warn you if you watch this series more then once you will find yourself going through your browser looking up the word "poi". Who knew one little word had so many meanings... Yes there is a character in this series that says the word a lot and evidently started a whole... movement.Oh yes, there was a movie set after season one which can be found out there in the internet. You may want to keep in mind region codes and if the version you are looking at is dubbed or only in Japanese. There is also a season two that they are wrapping up now. So there will be even more girls/warships/evildoers destroying the sealanes in the foreseeable future. If you miss all this there will be no poi for you.

Great idea done well
Awesome limited series. The concept is well balanced between action and drama. Crisp image too. I can also confirm this Blu Ray works fine on a UK player.

This is a series i never expected to see imported. It is a very niche series, you'll probably like it if you were already into the game or its characters from seiing fanart. As a fan of the series however i was quite happy to get my copy instead of fansubs.
