Exceptional value. Highly recommended. Fun lens to use!
The Meike 85mm f/1.8 SE II is an impressive lens that delivers results far beyond its price point. Wide open at f/1.8, it’s already sharp, with excellent subject separation and smooth, dreamy bokeh that gives images a polished, cinematic feel—especially for portraits. I’ve been using this lens adapted to my Canon EOS R5 with the Canon RF adapter, and it performs beautifully. Autofocus has been reliable, and the image quality coming out of the R5 is genuinely impressive. Files hold up extremely well in post, with good contrast and detail that don’t fall apart when you start pushing them. One thing that really stood out to me is how well the images print when enlarged. Details remain crisp, backgrounds stay creamy, and there’s a level of clarity that inspires confidence. I wouldn’t hesitate to deliver large prints from this lens, which says a lot considering its price point. Because of that consistency, this is a lens I’d trust for important moments and paid work. It feels dependable—not just something you pull out to experiment with, but a lens you can rely on when the shots actually matter. If you’re looking to create images that look significantly better than a phone, this is a great example of why investing in good glass matters. The lens is well-built without being heavy, easy to carry, and genuinely fun to shoot with. It encourages creativity while still delivering professional-looking results. Even though it’s an EF mount, it works flawlessly on RF bodies with the Canon adapter. For anyone shooting Canon mirrorless and looking for a low-cost lens that punches way above its weight, the Meike 85mm f/1.8 SE II is an easy recommendation. Exceptional value. Highly recommended.

Excellent value, great lens.
For the money it is a great lens. I updated it with newest firmware. Focus is fast, not as fast as a RF lens, but close. It is a heavier lens, not uncomfortable, but there is a noticeable difference. Image qualities is quite good, for the money you can’t beat it. I bought it for the f1.8. Has not disappointed. I am personally using this on an R10. I am using the Canon converter that enables you to use EF lens on an RF body.

Good lens
First impressions of the Meike 85mm f/1.8 SE Mark II EF. Personal opinion, not claiming to be the ultimate truth. Advantages ------------- Good sharpness in the center and acceptable at the edges even at the widest aperture. Fast autofocus for photos and quite decent speed for video. The autofocus is almost silent for both photo and video modes (STM motor). Nice bokeh Internal focusing with no moving parts. USB-C port for firmware updates. Feels like a well-made product. Comes with a lens hood. Size, weight (370 g), and, of course, the price of $230. Disadvantages ----------- No weather sealing. Although the minimum focusing distance is stated as 65 cm, the image is terribly blurry at that distance. From approximately 90 cm (I didn't measure precisely), everything is more or less normal. Doesn't handle backlighting very well. It's highly recommended to use the lens hood, but even that doesn't always completely solve the problem. Manual focusing is "by wire," which is quite inconvenient. Not as fast and precise as with mechanical focusing. Overall, I like the lens. I would give it a solid 4 out of 5. P.S. If your lens firmware version is 1.02, be sure to update it on the official Meike website. Version 1.02 does not support IBIS (stab) in mirrorless cameras Canon and has very slow autofocus during video recording. The update solves these problems.

Super worth it
Got this for my Lumix S1ii since I have an EF-L mount adapter, and it focuses well in photo and video modes with no issues at all. I love the bokeh from the largest aperture of f1.8, and super happy it came just in time for a shoot I have later today. I would def recommend this for EF or L-mount users who have EF-L mount adapters and are looking for a cheap portrait lens. This lens is not noisy when focusing, center sharpness is great, very lightweight and has no weathersealing if that matters to you.
