Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula, Anti-Dandruff Treatment for Long-Lasting Relief of Itching and Flaking Scalp as a Result of Psoriasis and Seborrheic Dermatitis, 16 fl. oz

I've been using this product for two weeks now, and at two washes a week with this shampoo, it has done wonders for my scalp. While I have not been to the doctor to determine what was going on with my scalp to give you an official diagnosis, the dry, scaley patches that were itchy and embarrasing are now gone! At one point, before using this shampoo, the top right corner of my scalp was the worst part of my head, and I would continually scratch to the point of almost bleeding and pulling out hair, which was beginning to thin. As a female with long hair, this was extremely embarrassing. Again, this shampoo has cleared up the scaley patch, along with the rest of my head. My hair seems healthy and full again, even in the area that was thinning. It looks like there was never a problem to begin with! It feels like my hair has more body now that my scalp is clear of the scaley patches and dryness, and if I scratch now it's out of habit or testing the results - there's really not anything there to itch or scratch. The first wash I did notice a strong smell from the shampoo, which I expected from reading reviews, but now I don't mind it when mixed with my hair products. To me, having these results is worth getting used to the smell. My husband doesn't mind it either. I'm writing this review because it has seriously done wonders for an embarrassing skin condition that I'm sure others had noticed on me. My husband notices I'm not scratching the you-know-what out of my scalp and making it bleed, and says it looks much better. For the results, this is a small price to pay, and sure beats going to the doctor for answers. We will see what happens long term, but for now, I'm happy. If you're contemplating buying this product, and if your scalp condition sounds like mine, then let me assure you it's worth trying this product. Also, a little goes a long way - even with my long hair that is to the middle of my back, so I know this shampoo will last a long time. I hope you find this review helpful and honest!

I have been buying T-Gel for years because I have a little bit of psoriasis on the back of my head, so I needed it, but I was having a lot of trouble finding it in the stores around me where I would usually purchase it. So, of course, I turned to Amazon. I thought that it was a little bit more expensive than it would’ve been in the store but I didn’t pay that close of attention because I needed the product either way and I ordered it. Then it arrived, and it is massive! At least compared to what I would typically pick up off of the shelf. Which makes this actually so much cheaper than I would’ve paid in person and I am ecstatic. It is a really nice and effective product for things like psoriasis or buildup like dandruff. It works great! However, it does make my hair a little bit dry if I use it too much and the scent is kind of medicinal. But it is exactly what I have been using for many years and for good reason. It is a great product! And this is a great deal!

I'm familiar with Coal Tar products as I've used a coal tar ointment in years past for psoriasis on arms legs and torso. I've found no shampoo that works well for the scalp though and have tried, Selsun and Head/Shoulders products and others. Cot tar works by reducing skin cell production which in Psoriasis, skin cell production accelerates to product excess skin cells and cause the flaking and redness we all know all to well if we have this condition. After just using the first time, the results were VERY noticeable and scalp itch and general flaking was reduced dramatically to the point where I did not notice it at all. I use this Neutrogena every other day and only need to shampoo once allowing it to remain on my scalp for 2 minutes or more before rinsing. Other users might need to shampoo twice as this is what is directed on the label. The scent is not that bad at all. Coal Tar is by nature a petroleum byproduct and has that similar smell like fuel oil or diesel fuel, although not anywhere as intense as those. Neutrogena does it well here by masking that order as well as possible using a mild fragrance that is pleasing and not overwhelming and does not leave you smelling like you are wearing aftershave or perfume. I'm sold on this and as long as I can use this and it is available, it is the best way to naturally (no Rx!!!) get control and relief of scamp issues due to skin disorders that produce itchy and flaking scalps. 5 Stars all around for this product!

I apparently used this product as a child but didn't remember it until I opened up the bottle. It has a very distinctive smell that you'll never forget. I assume that comes from the active ingredient of tar charcoal. I will just keep my review short and sweet and say that this product was for a time one of the only things that was able to calm my scalp when suddenly every big brand shampoo I owned began causing my head to break out into painful scabs. It doesn't smell particularly beautiful or floral like frilly Herbal Essences shampoos, for example, but I think that might be a good thing, as the frilly floral ones were causing my scalp to react. Even Head & Shoulders with pyrithione zinc was no longer soothing my skin. But I noticed an immediate difference in the way that my scalp felt after the first use of this T-Gel. In one week, everything had dried up and my scalp was healing nicely. You even become fond of its unique, earthy aroma. I continued to use this shampoo for a year or two, long after my scalp healed, as I was afraid of exacerbating another allergic reaction, but truth be told I actually just really liked this shampoo. I believe it recommends using it at least once a week, but I used it as frequently as every other day, or every two days, depending. I noticed this T-Gel also seemed to keep my oils under control, so I didn’t need to wash my hair as often. The only thing is that it is a gel, and lathering it into my long hair created a tangled mess. There is no accompanying cream rinse product that I know of, so I would follow it up with a conditioner applied to my ends, and there was no unpleasant allergic reaction for a time. Unfortunately, my scalp eventually seemed to become sensitized to T/Gel and it was at that point that I did my research and realized it actually contains irritating sulfates, despite being a shampoo for sensitive skin, so I had to switch to a sulfate-free shampoo (Argan Oil of Morocco), which has helped me recently. That being said, I still highly recommend this shampoo to anyone who is having some bad dandruff or allergic reactions but isn’t sure if the problem is sulfates. Unless you’re sure it’s a sulfate problem, this shampoo has a very therapeutic effect and could help you with breakouts. I will also say that it is not the most nutritive shampoo, so when I used it, I took to washing only my scalp and roots with the T/Gel. I’d then let it soak and go in with some other type of shampoo on the ends. I’d do the same with conditioner and avoid getting any products other than the T/Gel on my roots/scalp because for some reason my skin is just so sensitive in recent years. Like I said, if you try the T/Gel and it doesn’t help with your skin, try something sulfate-free.

First of all, once I realized I had a bigger problem than a head and shoulders shampoo problem, I started researching what I could do about it. This was one of the most recommended shampoos and one of the most, if not there most, cost effective. The only downside started was the smell...but read on. So, the first few times I used this I thought it smelled like I was putting tar or fresh asphalt in my hair and was seriously worried everyone else could smell it too. However, I had my husband put his nose right up to my hair and he said it smelled good (and he LOVES it when my hair smells freshly done), granted I put all my other hair products in as well, but I thought I could still smell it. After the first few days it didn't bother me because I really didn't notice it anymore and whatever was going on with my scalp, I no longer had a thick layer of stuff in my scalp. I think it was caused by stress, but the condition got better. At first I could only go a day or so between use so it didn't come back, but now I can go a week if I don't want to travel with it. I took the recommendation of others and would take a day off every so many days to rest my hair from the intensity of the shampoo. I also got some Aragon Moroccan Oil to put in my hair to restore some of the oil back and not only did it help, but my hair looked better than before. If I'm not using the Tgel, I have to really use the oil lightly or it's too much. So it really does help restore the hair without gooping up the scalp. I have tried other kinds of intense scalp shampoos, and although they may have smelled a little better right out of the bottle, this one works the best and it's price point is better. I had been quite concerned as I had been dealing with a scalp issue for a while that I couldn't resolve, until I came across this shampoo. It sounds like something out of a movie, but it's true. I tried various pharmacy shampoos, and while they weren't bad, this one proved to be much more effective. It comes in a larger quantity than those from the pharmacy, and at a reasonable price. I paired it with a serum because usually these types of shampoos leave my hair very dry. Since then, my hair has been incredibly soft and silky. I'm not sure if it's due to the serum or the shampoo, honestly, but I LOVED it. The only thing that isn't mind-blowing is the scent. It has a slightly strong medicinal smell, but it's tolerable, and if it helps, don't hesitate. The scent is a minor issue compared to the benefits it provides

After spending hundreds on other brands this is the only product that works for me. You will need to be patient and give it time to work. It will not work overnight. I only use this when I have flare ups. HOW I USE FOR BEST RESULTS: • Do one wash and rinse to get dirt and oils off of scalp. • After rinsing, go back in a second time. This will make the shampoo distribute in the scalp easier since all the buildup has already been removed from the first wash. • Let sit for about 5 minutes or so then rinse I do this every 2-3 days and usually in about a week or two my flare ups are completely cleared! Only complaint is that because the medication they use, it makes the shampoo smell bad. I can get past the smell, because it actually works! Medication Effectiveness: 10/10 Cleansing Effectiveness: 10/10 Smell: 1/10

OK. Just started getting this scalp problem about a year or so ago. I am 72 yr old man. My mother had a scalp problem in her old age so it is probably a genetic issue. I I got a spot about the size of a quarter on the side of my head just above my left ear. It started itching a lot and as I scratched it, it got worse and worse, getting crusty with dried secretions. Ugh!. So I started in on the medications. First tried this TGel and it worked immediately, stopped the itching and the build up of crust really went down. I then thought, ok, if .5% of coal tar in this formula is good, how about the 3% coal tar in MG217? That would be better right? Wrong!! I tried it, left it on for about 10 minutes, rinsed it out and dried my hair. It may have worked but it left me with a horrible desire to itch it. It was nothing like the T Gel, that gives me a lot of relief from the itch. And I notice it is reducing the crust build up too and the patch seems to be smaller. I am sticking with this stuff.

I was very sceptical in getting this one, but after reading many countless reviews I finally made the decision to get it and I must say that this has solved my problem of dandruff in a day which I was facing for over 10 years now. On the first use, I felt my head was dandruff free and it's been a week now and till now I didn't even have to scratch my head at all and there was no trace of dandruff as well (I used it 3 times a week tho). I use it every 3 days alternate... many people have complained about the smell. I understand that there is a small but trust me it doesn't bother me at all, as I know it is medical treatment so it will have such smell. but the smell can be eliminated with any good smelling conditioner, but highly suggest not to use any other conditioner after you use this shampoo, as you have to allow this shampoo to properly sink into your head. Pro tip: get amazon prime if you live in the U.A.E as it will save you huge cost on shipping once you order something worth 100dhs. I got my shipment 2 weeks before the expected delivery date and I am really happy about that. 2) once you use the shampoo let it stay on your head for 1-2 min and massage your head properly for best effect. Highly recommended for people with dandruff problems.

Había estado batallando algún tiempo con la caspa y no sabía cómo tratarla, así que en la búsqueda de un tratamiento me encontré con esta opción y decidí darle una oportunidad. Ha sido la mejor opción! Me encanta la sensación de limpieza que deja en el cabello, no me deja el cabello reseco o tieso cuando acabo de bañarme como algunos otros shampoos para la caspa. Eso sí, lo uso 2-3 veces por semanas como indica el envase y también 2 veces por semana aplicó una mascarilla para el cabello para mantenerlo suave. El olor es algo fuerte, pero a mí en lo personal no me molesta y hasta me gusta jaja si no te agrada el olor, creo que puedes usar una pequeña cantidad de otro shampoo para que se elimine el olor un poco. Me gustó el precio porque se me hizo económico a comparación de otros que son del mismo precio y contienen menos cantidad.
