Will Makita ever come out with a cordless polisher like Milwaukee has?

I have the Milwaukee and it has a really bad flaw with the battery connections, they are too small for the heavy amp draw, constantly have to wire brush black stuff off terminals, and I have a whole Milwaukee tool collection. That is why I am researching a new buffer. Get a corded one.

Can it be used with smaller backing plates? Is it a standard screw attachment?

Yes. It has a threaded post for smaller backing plates. I believe it is standard 5/8-11 post. I have a 3" backing plate and a 7".

Is there warranty on it?

I think there is a one year warranty.

Not if you use hook and loop pads.
