It is what you make of it
First off, I've read nearly all of the reviews about this on here. Second, this is my first Arkon product, so I have no bias to the company. This table mount is very easy to install, and there are many installation options to choose from. There is a floor mount plate, if you want a more "rigid" mount, that takes only seconds (and a screwdriver) to swap out. I chose to just loosen my seat rail bolt, slide this into place, and tighten it down. Nice and snug, and no wiggle room. The "flexible" arm is more rigid than I was expecting, which in itself is a huge plus. I didn't want to be driving down the road and have the tablet "sink" requiring constant adjustment, and it doesn't. Once you get it into position, it stays. The only "con" if you can even call it that, is that the tablet does shake a bit when traveling down the road, but why wouldn't it? It's not hard mounted onto anything, and there's only one point of contact (let's be real) supporting the tablet. The "finger" sets they send with the unit allow me to use this with my Galaxy Tab 2 (Both 10" and 7"). Once you get the fingers installed and go to insert the tablet, the mount expands to accomodate, and the tablet is held FIRMLY in place using spring pressure. All-in-all, I don't have much to say along the lines of "new persective", but as a unit, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I would recommend this over any other mount. Sure, you could go for a RAM mount, but why would you want to remove your center fascia to install a bracket? This setup allows for a much speedier installation and removal should you want to switch vehicles. As a side note, being able to remove the mount instead of popping the tablet into and out of the fingers is a big plus for me. I can pull the tablet and mount off (together) by depressing a tab on the back. I just think it's easier to pop the whole thing off, take it into work with me, and at the end of the day, slide (and lock) the mount back in place and off I go...

Overall great product with only a few minor complaints
I've had my mount installed into 2 different cars not since I purchased it. Overall, I love the convenience of having my tablet within an arms reach. Since I use my tablet(s) for my in-vehicle entertainment (music, podcasts, audio books) it is very useful to have it secure but within reach. The tablet mount came with multiple pieces to allow you to configure it to fit pretty much any size tablet. I've used a 3rd generation iPad, an Acer Iconia A500 and a Google Nexus 7 in this mount without any issues. Just swap a couple of pieces when you change the tablet and it's good to go. I love the fact that not only is the mount able to me positioned by adjusting the arm, but the actual bracket that holds the tablet onto the arm has a ball-joint type setup that allows the bracket to be swiveled into any position and then locked down to hold in that position. The tablet, once secured, does not slide around and has never been jarred loose when going over rough roads, etc. Not everything about this unit is great though. I've had 2 problems with it. Luckily, due to the price point and overall functionality, these issues are minor and not a deal breaker for me. The first issue is the mounting bracket that attaches to the seat bolt. It truly will fit into ANY vehicle by mounting to the seat bolt. However, due to the way the mount is designed some vehicles loose their ability to fully slide the seat forward as the mount interferes with the seat rail. I'm still working on a possible solution to this, but have not been able to put enough time into it yet. The second issue is really more of a personal complaint. Due to the length of the arm the tablet does tend to sway a little bit. After a little investigating I've found a couple of different was to alleviate this. In my Ford Explorer it was possible to route the arm up between the center console and the passenger seat, thus eliminating 99% of the movement issue. In my 2002 Kia Rio I was able to use a double sided sticky tape tie anchor mounted to the center console with a zip tie securing the arm to this anchor. As I said, overall not a deal breaker. Really more like minor annoyances. Overall I have considered and probably will purchase a couple of these so I can have one in each of my vehicles.

It does the job!
I bought this to hold my iPad 2 so that I can use it for navigation in my car. The arm that bolts to the passenger seat is very stiff so it holds the iPad very securely. Also, the mounting mechanism is spring loaded on the bottom, so you insert your tablet by pressing it against the bottom two holders while pushing the top of the tablet backward. The springs ease a bit and the tablet snaps in. While in the mount the unit can shake a bit if you hit a hard bump in the road. If you drive on really bumpy roads you may find you need to use some Velcro or something to anchor the mount to keep the vibrations down, but on your typical highway-type roads where you mostly travel at high speeds, it is very stable. This is actually my second mount system from Arkon. The first one holds my phone and the mount is much smaller than the one that comes with this system. Also, the arm is much stiffer. However, both mounts will fit on either arm, so I can remove the tablet mount and replace it with the phone mount for times when I don't need the iPad. It is nice using the iPad for nav, assuming you can orient it so the sunlight isn't on the screen.

Much better than I expected! Love it!
After reading some of the reviews I wasn't expecting a lot, but I didn't want to pay triple for a more name brand product. I received the mount a day after I ordered it! I was shocked it came so soon! (It was to be shipped via the free 2-day shipping for Prime members.) I was expecting a fairly flimsy rod. This thing was sturdy!! It was difficult to even bend the rod the small amount I needed to curve over my console. It installed in less than a minute to the seat bolt on my FJ. It is the PERFECT length rod (for my FJ). It puts the iPad within reach, but not in the way of my gear shifter or cup holders. I drove about 200 miles today with the iPad in the holder. It was very sturdy. It does have a little movement with the truck, but my husband (who was my passenger) had no problem playing on the iPad the entire trip. The only time he had a problem was when he was trying to click on an option on a webpage on the internet while we were driving, and the button they put on their website was tiny. But he just enlarged the page & clicked on it. So unless you are having to be super precise with where you click, there isn't enough movement from the mount to cause a problem. And we didn't have the mount supported by anything else. (It was free standing, not pushed against the seat, not pushed against the console. The weight of the iPad was completely being supported solely by the rod. And there were no problems.) So this was definitely better than I expected. My husband wants one for his truck. He was very impressed with it, and so was I. I also have a LARGE hard case on the iPad and it was no problem. The mount accommodated it perfectly and held it VERY securely. I will try to post a picture of it in my FJ on the product page. You will know it's my picture, because my radio is lit up in the picture and it says "FJ Cruiser" big & bright. So you can see how the length of the rod looks in the FJ. So far it's an excellent product! Addition on Sept 28, 2012: Ok I have to add this. I'm highly impressed with Arkon (the company). My husband has a Garmin Nuvi 50 that came with a case that will attach to a 17mm ball. The ball on this item for the iPad is a 22mm ball. I was looking for an adapter that would turn the 22mm ball into a 17mm ball so my husband would have the option of attaching his Garmin to it. I couldn't find one, so I emailed the company (Arkon.com). They wrote me back the next morning and asked for my address & said they would send me one free!!! Oh, I'm impressed! So impressed that I just purchased a second mount so we had one in each vehicle.

Best mount ever!
I went through a half dozen different mounts before finding this one. Tried everything - vent mounts, windshield mounts, dash-top mounts, seatback mounts modified to latch on to the dash ...the vent mounts broke my vents, the windshield mounts kept falling off, the dash-top mount was too unsteady and difficult to reach ... they all sucked. This mount attaches easily and firmly to the seat rail. It won't detach on it's own, and it won't move around. The location is perfect for accessing from the drivers position. The neck is flexible, allowing for further adjustments so you can position it as perfectly as you like. In my car I found that it initially got in the way of the gear-shifter, but I was able to make small adjustments to get the right amount of clearance. My only complaint is that even when it's properly positioned, it is a LITTLE wobbly. If you're hoping to be able to type while driving full-speed over a road covered in potholes, you'll be disappointed. However, I try not to do any typing while driving, so this stands works great - it's more than stable enough to allow me to easily access media buttons and program icons, which is all I really need.

Good Stand but doesn't really fit iPads
I bought this mount because the description said that "adjustable tablet holder fits any tablet 7 to 12-Inch with or without a case or skin." I figured "this is perfect, it will fit my iPad mini, and my parents iPad when they ride with me." The iPad mini did fit in the arm but too tight. I was afraid it was putting too much pressure on the sides of the iPad. So, I tried my parent's iPad 2 just for fun, and could not figure out how to get it in the arm. It didn't even hold the iPad 2, there was a 1/2" gap between the top of the iPad and the arm. I solved the iPad mini problem by glueing two pieces of Pool noodle foam at the top and bottom and it fits the iPad mini perfectly, you will be able to slide the mini in and out easily. The only downside to my modification is in heavy braking, the mini will fall out. Now onto the good: The design is pretty good, they only give you two types of little arms (short and long), these arms slide into the channels at the top and bottom of the big "I" shaped part of the mount. Installation is a snap, remove the bolt closest to the console and slide the mount under and re-tighten the bolt. They also give you another mount that is made to drill into metal or plastic (I personally would not do this but to each their own). I installed this mount in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and it fits perfectly without too much "shake". It does shake but not to the point that you cannot see the screen clearly. Overall I would only recommend this item to someone if they wanted to modify it for their uses like I have. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Good product, not for trucks though.
Ok, I bought both the windshield mount and floor mount because I didn't know which I would prefer. I have a 2007 Dodge Ram, the windshield mount review is pasted at the bottom. The floor mount is advertised as having an 18" arm, that sounds like a lot, but for me and my truck, it put my iPad at knee level, and blocked my cup holders. Both of which are bad when I'm driving, I like to be able to get to my drink and I don't want to have to look down to see the navigation screen on the iPad. I have found I prefer the windshield mount for my truck and my driving style. Both mounts are great quality products, they hold the iPad tightly and are easy to use. Windshield mount review - This thing works awesome, just as its supposed to. The adjustments make this mount so universal to any car. Used it in a Chrysler town and country, that car has a dash like football field, this mount got my iPad right out in easy reach. Currently used on a dodge ram, works great. One small flaw, I think some other reviewers noted that it was shaky, it is. But it is easily fixed with a couple pieces of electrical tape. The end were the device goes is attached to the telescoping rod with two small screws, take those two screws out and and put about a 1" piece of electrical tape on each side between the two channels on the rod, you might have to trim the tape a little. Then put it back together, and the shakiness will be virtually gone! The only other thing, I have a case that has the 360 degree thing, it is to thick to fit in this holder. No problem for long trips, but a bit of a pain to take the iPad in and out of the case for short trips just to use the mount.

Very adjustable, but the mounting base is weak if not attached to a seat rail.
The Gooseneck --------------------------- The gooseneck is an amazing adjustment tool on this product, and is very tight and impossible to accidentally knock out of position. It's tight enough in fact that you'll probably have to have to stop if you want any significant adjustment to it since it can't really be adjusted while driving. Attachment ------------------------ The attachment point to the tablet holder can be hand-tightened or loosened with a large threaded plastic bolt to allow varying levels of free rotation of the tablet mount, but the rotation angles allowed are quite significant so you'll probably end up getting it close to what you want and tightening it most of the way. The attachment to the floor however is a significant weak point. The best attachment is clearly to attach to the mounting rail of a seat as described extensively. This is rather simple IF you actually have bolted mounting rails on your seats. My vehicle does not, and a quick survey of friend's cars found that about 50% didn't. The alternate floor mounting method is a metal plate with numerous screw holes in it that can be drilled into the floor of your vehicle using provided screws. Unfortunately when doing so, you're unlikely to find something to attach to that is as sturdy as the mounting rail of a passenger or driver seat, so the mounting tends to be weaker. Furthermore while the plate base is decent size, having only 4 screws doesn't provide as sturdy an attachment as I would like, leaving the whole mount slightly susceptible to tilting at some angles, especially when adjusting the very stiff gooseneck. If you mount it this way, make sure the gooseneck tends to run along something to help keep it steady, and be absolutely sure you hold the base in position while adjusting the gooseneck so you don't crack or tear the mounting plate out. One thing to be VERY careful of, regardless of how you mount it, is if you have a 2-door car. The seats have to slide forward and/or tilt heavily upward to allow access to the back, and most good mounting points for desired position will slightly impede this seat movement. The gooseneck-to-mounting bracket point has a fixed height at which the gooseneck cannot be adjusted, so be sure that won't impede the seat movement in a way you can't live with. Tablet Holder ---------------------- The tablet holder itself comes with two sets of replaceable arms, a small set and a large set. Each arm is individually replaceable through a slide mechanism, so 3 basic levels of sizing are possible depending on whether you use all larges, all shorts, or half larges and half shorts. Because of the sliding arm replacement mechanism, the distance between two arms on the same side can also be adjusted to fit most tablets. The arms themselves are ridged rubber on the inside, allowing a tablet to be securely held at a slight angle even within the arms themselves. If desired, the tablet could even be held almost at the tips of the arms without any concern of it slipping or popping out. The arms themselves are also angled such that they get slightly closer together the closer you get to the tips of them, which further assists in keeping the tablet in place. What was extremely non-obvious about the tablet holder is that the bottom arms are actually attached to a heavily spring loaded extender that allows the whole assembly to accommodate a tablet much larger than the arms themselves would suggest. This spring action is strong enough that even thin tablets will have no concern about slipping out (it's strong enough I had to push hard enough I thought I might slightly bend the heavy duty plastic arms before I discovered the spring action). It is not so strong however that there would be concern about damaging the tablet itself. I have a Samsung Note 8.0 (8" tablet) and an Asus Transformer Prime (10" tablet with large bezel), and by using half long and half short arms, I can securely fit my large tablet in landscape (and fully rotate it to whatever position I actually want) or my smaller tablet in portrait simply by making use of the spring loaded arm expansion. The design of the arm lengths and spring loaded extension appears to match large phones, 7", 10", or 12" tablets with the short arms working on the top and bottom of a large phone or the 7" tablet's sides, the mixed arms working on the 7" tablet's top and bottom or the 10" tablet's sides, and the large arms working on the 10" tablets top and bottom or the 12" tablet's sides (though of course bezel size always makes a difference in all these cases). Usage --------------------------- I have my mount attached using the screws and plate since I don't have seat rails to attach to, and it runs up from the passenger side of my VW Bettle right at back left edge of the foot mat, along the center console and up next to the gear shift (it's an automatic). The height works out such that I can put my 10" tablet in it and tilt the screen toward me about 30 degrees before I run into the gear shift while in drive. While I'm driving, there isn't a lot of vibration transmitted up the gooseneck since it largely rests along the side of the center console. I checked the positioning if it ran from the driver's side and found that the tablet would impede access to the bottom right edge of the steering wheel and the keys if mounted on that side. I would consider getting the 22" instead of the 18" if you're not going to be able to mount it to a seat rail since the distance run is going to be slightly longer to find a place you can put the mounting plate, but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with it. I did almost make the mistake of mounting it in such a way that I couldn't slide the passenger seat forward to allow access to the back seat of my 2-door, but luckily I caught it in time and moved the mounting plate slightly forward and closer to the center console.
