Are the bullets designed to slide in from the top or the bottom of the connector when assembling these?

They slide in from the bottom. Make sure you do not have solder on the outside of the brass connector, if you have a little you can sand of with a dremel sanding disk, then push it home using a small screw driver.. Hope this helps!
