These are heavy duty great pruners for the professional
As the owner of a gardening company corona has the highest quality in my experience. I use them daily. They sharpen very easily. The lock works well, so I can put them inside my gardening pouch. Theyโre very thick comfortable very sharp when they get dull you could just sharpen them quickly and the value for the money is unbelievable. These are a steel.

Best pruners I have owned -- see end of my review for tips on cleaning
Growing roses are my thing and these pruners are the best I've found. I have about 40 roses in my garden and, owing to the long growing season in Central Texas, pruning is a regular chore -- the only thing I do more frequently is mow the lawn! I used to just buy a new pair of pruners every year or two from Lowe's to get me by. But I noticed how high the attrition rate became: some cheap pruners would break (especially if they have a fancy open/close mechanism, or cheap springs), others would get dull and stay dull, others just simply felt uncomfortable in the hand, and some were the wrong size or design. I finally decided to invest in a good pair of pruners that would last more than one season and these were it! I know there are more expensive ones out there, but, in my opinion, having tried the "best," I think Corona offers the best bang for the buck of any pruner on the market. The pruners are constructed of forged steel throughout, so that the handle actually extends directly from the blade in one piece of steel. The two "halves" (if you will) are connected by a very stout screw and the spring mechanism is very durable and reliable. The red rubber coating on the handles is very nice and holds up really well. Best of all, unlike many fancy pruners found at Home Depot, the blades are very easy to sharpen and seem to hold an edge much better than the competition. I had high ideas of sharpening this thing monthly, but it never happens. Truth is, it doesn't really matter! With my 40-some rose bushes, I made it through a whole season without sharpening and they still slice through rose canes with an effortless and perfectly clean cut. Overall these pruners are very comfortable and have a natural feel in the hand. The springs work reliably but are neither too strong nor too weak. Like all pruners, they require a bit of basic maintenance beyond sharpening. Oil regularly. I use Wahl clipper oil and have found it very good. You will also notice they get gummed up from plant matter and sappy substance. This is super hard to clean off with soap and water. Rubbing them down with alcohol is great to prevent the spread of disease, but does very little to prevent gummy buildup. I do two things. First, soak the blades i a bowl of vinegar. The acid will help loosen up the gunk without damaging the pruners. Secondly, clean with Fast Orange or a similar pumice-based cleaner. Pumice is the gritty, sandy stuff in the soap that really scrubs off the gunk. Fast Orange also contains copious amounts of citric acid to help clean thoroughly without the use of petro-chemicals. This gets the bulk of the gunk off and will leave your blades shiny clean! Overall I highly recommend these pruners and will return to buy more for many years. I'm very pleased with my purchase and always recommend these to my neighbors when they come to me to get advice from the "rose guy."

Corona hand held pruner
Cuts very well I used it on stems up to 1/2" diameter but definitely could have handled up to 1" as advertised. Well made. Definitely a good buy and tool for my garden

Great quality though different than expected.
I bought my first Corona Bypass Hand Pruners 50 years ago. Iโve had different corona styles over the years but Iโm always most comfortable with the simple ยพโ cut. This pair that I received is stamped BP 3160 as are those that I have purchased and used in recent years. This new pair though is heavier and feels more like my 1โ Corona Bypass Pruners. The spring is a heavier gauge and requires more force to close. The hook has a wider body (profile) and wider sap groove. Additionally, it weighs 9.1 ounces compared to my older, other ยพโ clippers (some marked BP3160, 3160 or without model marks) weighing 8.7 ounces. That 0.4 ounce difference doesnโt sound like much, but if you have arthritis or carpel tunnel issues the weight and balance do matter. Trust me, you feel it. My Catalpa tree hung on to every one of its beans over winter, and a fair crop left from the season before that as well. The last big storm brought them down. I need to get them cleaned up and out of the lawn which is now rapidly growing through them thanks to much needed moisture. Where I live we are still charged for yard waste and I had to drive 1 ยฝ hours each way to get leaf bags. So, I spent 3 days clipping every one of the lovely beans (most now hard shell and split open into 3 parts each) into 4-inch-long pieces. Why? Because itโs the only ways to get them into 4 trash cans and 4 leaf bags. I spent ยฝ day with the new โbeefierโ clippers and the rest of the time with the old. Hundreds of thousand of clips in those 3 days and my old-friend clippers met the challenge. The new ones sat on the side lines. Donโt misunderstand, the new clippers work great it just takes more effort than I had expected for the same model number and not being able to tell from the listing or the Corona Store pages that the product had changed. Iโll give the 5-Stars because I know the quality, but for the all the product pages that in some places show the same picture for the ยฝโ, ยพโ, and the 1โ cut I would deduct 1/2 Star if I could. Additionally, the name: ClassicCUT Forged ยพโ with the picture showing BP3160 Corona BP3160 Classic Cut Bypass Pruner with a picture showing BP3160 Corona Classic Cut 8โ Steel Bypass also with a picture that shows BP3160 are all on the same Corona Store 3160 โSEARCHโ page, each with different price points. If I were to buy all three, would they all be the same? The model number on each picture says that they would be. If they arenโt the same, how would I know how to choose which would be like my beloved and aging pairs?

Exceptional Bypass Pruner...and ALL METAL.
On 07/2721014, I purchased this CORONA BP 3180 Clasic Cut, 1", Forged Bypass Pruner after an extensive search at local DIY retailers and Garden Centers. In the past 10 yrs, I've gone through 8 pruners, almost 1 per years at the cost of $9-14 apiece. Each of those 8 pruners had some weak plastic part that broke or an unsecured tension spring that either failed or was lost. I was SO frustrated that prominent garden tool manufacturers employed cheap plastic on tools that by their nature, would get a heavy workout. My hunt locally was a bomb, because even $20-$30 pruners had plastic pieces in critical points. I was determined to find an ALL-METAL pair of of hand-held bypass pruners. My choice of this Corona BP3180, 1" Pruner was an AWESOME choice! The product is ALL Metal (forged steel alloy), has a simple but functional design, and has handled all sorts of pruning chores. It's now 9mo. later that I'm writing this review, and these pruners have taken me through 3 Seasons of unusually active yard work without one hiccup. The pruner blade seems to hold a sharp edge well, as I've sharpened it only once. The grip is extremely comfortable, and the spring action is smooth and tight. One particular note: I have a large hand (L-XL size glove), and I believe the grip might be too large for an avg. woman's hand or a small man's hand. I find the spring tension to be perfect, which allows for an easy repetition of quick-cuts, while remains firmly in my hand. The metal blade-locking mechanism is both simple and strong, plus very handy when tucking the pruner in my pocket. The rubber-like coating on the handle grips also lends to its secure grip. I highly recommend this Corona Bypass Prunner (BP3180) if you're needing a strong workhorse pruner, and you're tired of wasting money on cheap plastic tools. At US21, this 1" pruner is a not only an exceptional product, but also a great value...and definitely worthy of replacing your waiting-to-break, metal-plastic doo-hickey. -jRA
