This review will be a bit more detailed than I normally write. Let's break it down into categories. Frame quality: Excellent hardwood, smooth and well-finished. Hardware: Excellent quality and appropriate to the application. Ease of assembly and quality of instructions: Assembly will probably take you about two hours. There are lots of parts. An allen wrench is included to help assembly and you may not need anything else but may need a screwdriver to exactly position the barrel bolts. While a purchaser could be intimidated by assembly, the instructions are well written with pretty good illustrations. A couple of points are that 1) this is not the type of product to dump everything out and assume you can just put it together and 2) if you carefully read the instructions, go step by step, and refer to the drawings frequently then assembly goes along pretty smoothly. One note is that the instructions are generic for several models and some pieces may not look exactly as portrayed. For instance, the illustration may show an exaggerated roundness on the end of a piece as compared to the actual piece. I emphasize to look closely at the drawings and follow the instructions exactly and you will be just fine. Mattress quality: The mattress is heavy duty and comes vacuum packed to reduce size. You may want to open this first to allow the mattress to start decompressing, a process that can take up to two days per the included note. The mattress description indicates high density foam; if so the foam may be cellulose based as the mattress has kind of sawdust smell. Our mattress is brand new and we are not yet sure if the smell will fade. Also not yet sure as to whether the mattress will be lumpy and in need of some kind of cover pad. The mattress is probably not washable. Sturdiness: Excellent Position in a room: When folding down into the bed position, the rear of the futon will extend further than in the upright position so, if the normal location is against a wall, the unit will have to be pulled out to convert to a bed. You may want to put sliders under the legs to make moving the unit easier. Overall: an excellent piece of furniture with a bit of concern about the mattress. If we could give half stars, this would be a four and one-half.

Bought for our 6'9" athlete for college. Fits well under the bunk beds in his dorm room. He says it's quite comfortable, allows him to stretch out, and he's actually sleeping this year. He likes that he can fold it up and use as a couch when watching TV or when having visitors. Queen sized sheet and mattress protectors fit the cover well.

Pros: Great color, very comfortable sleeping, pretty comfortable sitting, easy to open, looks good and meets our need for a sofa bed in our small guest/TV room. Substantial, sturdy. Easy to put together if you pay attention and ignore the wooden plugs that keep feeling out. Cons: Don't love the angle of the seat, hard to get up from, not great for laying sideways across it because you roll down into a valley and can't move around. Awkward/difficult to return to sofa from flat bed position. Slides on hardwood floor. No arms. Stitching on the futon a little sloppy and likely to work loose soon. Decent value and likely to last but wish I'd paid $400 rather than $600.

This futon is great! It arrived earlier than I thought it would and putting the frame together wasn't too difficult. The instructions can be a bit confusing at first, but once you've matched the correct pieces with how they look in the instructions, building it becomes way easier. It took me about an hour and a half to assemble the whole thing by myself. I received three packages via Fedex. The first two packages came together and they consisted of the frame. The larger package is the heavier one but the Fedex guy was able to carry it up to the third floor of the apartment without having to put it down, so a normal dude shouldn't have a problem bringing it in. The third package came two days later and it contained the mattress. I recommend having a second person to help carry it but it isn't extremely heavy. Maybe 40-50 pounds. The framework, itself, is very nice and it functions as it should. It's sturdy and folds out into a bed easily, although the thick mattress can make that a little cumbersome to do. But that's not really a big deal and it comes with the territory of having a thick mattress. The mattress, itself, is also very nice and is soft and not too firm. You sink in just a little bit but is still firm enough, which is what I wanted. It's also heavy so lugging it around can be a pain in the butt but the frame holds it up and any additional weight with no problem. NOTE: the throw pillows do not come with the futon. I didn't really care as I have like a billion of those already so...there ya go.

Love the frame but the mattress is extremely heavy, hard as a rock, and DOES NOT BEND! I had to spend an extra $250 to buy another mattress before my grandson came to visit.

Very sturdy and very comfortable, but the mattress is lumpy and odd shaped. More like a trapezoid than a rectangle. It also hangs over the edge about 5 inches on each side when flat, hangs over the bottom about 10 inches when up. I pull the mattress up but it just slides back down. The mattress is much larger than the frame. Maybe they packaged the wrong size? Too difficult to repack to return, just kept it since it is at least very comfortable. Just not as nice looking as in the photos they advertise.

Put it together with my son. Took about 2 hours. Kind of frustrating putting the frame with the sides to get the gliding up/down position but after we figured it out we were fine. That was the very last part. This is what took so long. Lots of slats and pieces. Looks very intimidating but its not. Instructions are good. Takes two people. But thats just my opinion. Very sturdy. Had it for a year now. My son(17) loves it. It sits up and lays down with ease. Very spacy and comfortable. Blue mattess is a Beautiful color. Didnt need a futon cover. Just the sheets.

All in all, I'm very please with this futon. I mainly bought it as sofa so I can't comment on its use as a bed. It Is very sturdy and attractive and very nicely replaces and older futon that I have. It is quite heavy and I think it is best to have two people working on the project. Even the mattress is heavy and I had difficulty placing it on the frame by myself. Typically the instructions are not very good. The Diagrams are adequate but lack text to explain fine points in assembly. I've put together quite a few this type of product and so it was a little easier to anticipate some of the problems. It took two of us about two hours to assemble There was quite a delay between the time of delivery of the frame and the mattress. It took me quite a while to realize that replies from the manufacturer can only be read on the Amazon website. I had expected a reply via email or return phone call and got a bit frustrated when I never heard a thing. As mentioned by others, I did not receive adequate wooden buttons to cover the screw holes. The manufacturer promised replacements, but I have yet to receive them. I ordered the queen size, but in retrospect, I think the standard size would have work just as well for my purposes since I have no intention of using it as a bed.. The larger size just made the back a little higher. I do think the thicker mattress is well worth the extra cost
