Don't need to know how to read music
The description of what you get with the Walton's Scottish Whistle Twin Pack is bare bones, no song list, no example page of music sheet, so it was a gamble, but it came early, great price for the whistle and book with music notes, instructions, AND fingering charts so you don't need to know how to read music. Great for beginners. I am not musically inclined, I can't read music or carry a tune, and I have no rhythm, so it was great and easy to learn for amateur hour! It would be helpful to have an audio of the songs I'm not familiar with though. I can usually find these songs online in some way though. PERFECT FOR EVERYONE | Despite the penny whistle being very easy to play for all different levels of expertise, when played by the advanced musician, it can be a very dynamic and exciting instrument with a very surprising level of subtle quality! INCLUDES A SIX LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET | For the musician that is just learning how to play the penny whistle, we have included a language instruction booklet that will help walk you through the beginning steps of learning how to play this beautiful woodwind instrument! COMES IN KEY D | The most common keys that the penny whistle come in are C and D. Allowing you to play a wide variety of music as well as giving you the mellow tone and melody that you are looking for in a penny whistle. QUALITY YOU CAN TRUST | The penny whistle is one of the lower end costing woodwind instruments, however the quality remains intact. For the price, you cannot find a better way to broaden your musical expertise! The penny whistle is the perfect beginner whistle to expand your musical horizon!

Tin whistle
Great beginner tin whistle and the book helps alot to learn the notes and fingerings as well as the different octaves you are able to play on it. You can definately tell it's a beginners whistle but it good for the budget for someone just starting out. Perfect size to take wherever you want to go which makes it very functional. The finger holes are close together which can be a pain but I quickly adapted to it.

Will have you skipping through a forest playing tunes in no time
I started playing this cause I was watching too much YouTube while sitting at home during these weird times. Good whistle, easy to play after a tiny bit of practice. My advice is to be patient and take your time with the basics, especially how you blow air through it. You have to do it just right. There are good tutorials on YT and I recommend CutiePie. After a week of practice I felt like I needed to be skipping through a forest playing this thing. You will feel the same. Trust me.

Bought 2 of these and the fipple sounds awful in upper register. .
Very airy and hard to make a clear sound in the upper register. I've been playing penny whistles a long time and it's something about the fipple/mouthpiece that just isn't quite right. This is the only version I've had trouble with. All the others I've tried don't have this issue. I think it's a problem with the mold they use to make the mouthpiece.

poor sound and limited range
The book (the 2nd part of the two-fer) is pretty good. There are some errors (call them folk variants if you prefer). Fingerings are all under every note, so you can work the tunes out that way if need be. The flute itsself has a rather poor tone. Above the staff, I had to find my own fingerings for G & B. The F# & A are clear as a bell. The high G is plagued with the persistence of the low G sounding simultanteously. I did not think it was worth the effort to work out fluidity in the alternate fingerins I fund to play that part of the range, so I do not think I will play this penny whistle in D at all. Walton seems to be a well established brand, so I am puzzled that this product is of such low quality. My advice is to keep shopping. I do not question good reviews of this product. For me, it does not work very well and it does not seem worth the effort to perfect the work-arounds I found that make it acceptable. It is hard to play & it doesn't have a very pleasing tone quality. The "feel" I get it that it is shaky & shrill. And unstable. It is not easy to play this whistle.

poor quality control
The Scottish whistle had shards attached to the inside of the holes. The inside was dirty with a large clump of debris. Low quality plastic mouthpiece. I used a plastic tip to carefully remove the shards and flushed out the debris from the inside. Playable but sound quality not that great.

Going to be fun!
It's perfect. I have always wanted to play a tin whistle. I am trying to learn something new this year and this is what I picked. Instructions are simple and easy to follow. Whistle sound is lovely (once you learn the right way to breathe. 😊
