Played like a fiddle.. only different..
My daughter surprised me one day and said, dad i am taking orchestra. I said โatta girl, what instrument are you playingโ? She said violin. I said awesome. Then she said, btw you have to buy me a violin because the school doesnโt have any. So after cussing a lil bit in my head so as not to damage her fragile young ears, i took to Amazon. I bought her a violin, case, music book, music stand etc. Itโs pretty. She has to retune it a bit often but the tuner works. Itโs actually a really good quality. It has made it for 2 years of school, the bus, getting banged around by a 10-12 year old and still works great! I donโt know much about it but she says itโs very easy to play. Wasnโt crazy expensive and does the job for a kid.

You are getting a good deal for what your are paying for
For starters I am not an expert violin player. I purchased the full size version and the 1/2 size for my son, we are learning the violin together. I have played the guitar for years. I have played the violin for about 2 months, I have an electric violin, my son had a 1/4 size acoustic, my son grew out of his so I just got us both a new acoustic. The violin comes with d'addario strings - which sound very nice. The violin sounds nice and looks just like the picture - its obviously not hand stained - but its nice and shiny. It plays pretty well (I am obviously not the best player in the world, i don't hit the other strings too much - or at least much more than I do on other instruments). The bow feels a little heavier then ones I have used before so it takes a little getting used to that, but I don't think its a bad bow. It tunes pretty easy. I tuned both of the violins in about 5 minutes - granted I have played guitar for years so I am not new to the process of tuning string instruments but violins are MUCH harder to tune than guitars - and cheap violins often times are really hard - and then they don't stay in tune after for that long. The case is good, about what you would expect and everything they said that comes with it did. The tuner is also a metronome which is a good thing to have for a student. For the price, this is a very good violin. If I had spent 150 or 200 for this I wouldn't feel ripped off, I think the violin sounds good - and is very playable. I would recommend this to people looking to start violin, you're not spending a fortune and you're not getting a cheap violin that is very hard to tune, wont stay in tune and the bridge just makes you hit other strings all the time. The violin is a hard instrument to learn, so I wouldn't recommend spending much more that 200 dollars for a first violin in case you don't stick with it but having said that, I don't know if I would go too cheap either because if the violin is cheap and doesn't sound good and doesn't play well at all, the cheapness of the violin you're trying to learn with adds to the difficulty, this violin seems like a good medium and really they could probably charge a little more for it. Also for parents wondering how loud their kids violin will be: The violin is fairly loud, so you even with a practice mute will hear in the next room, violins are not quiet, no matter what you try - if you buy an electric silent violin which is the one I started with, its quieter but you can still hear it in the next room. Acoustic violins are a little better sounding, actually they're a lot better sounding - so just buy earplugs.

Good for beginners to very early intermediate players
I bought this violin a few months after renting one. This is my review after using it for two years. It has a nice hue with the shine that many student violins typically have. The sound quality in first position is fine, although the g string is has a rusty sound. The sound in third position is mediocre, but it was impossible to produce a clear tone in fifth position. The bow is all right, but it is hard to learn techniques such as staccato and spiccato. The shoulder rest is of terrible quality since the knobs keep loosening and it falls off the violin. I never used the metronome since there are worlds better apps on your phone. The rosin was fine. Overall, this is good for beginners but hard to improve as techniques and learning become more advanced.

Nice violin for the price
Update: This company has excellent customer service. They responded the same day I reported the missing shoulder rest. I received a new shoulder rest within a few days. Based on this great service I have updated my rating to 5 stars! This is my grandson's second violin. His teacher requested we move him into a 1/2 size violin. We purchased an Eastar EVA-3 1/4 violin for his first violin which was an acceptable violin until we determined that he would stick with learning the violin. The Cecilio CVN-300 is a much better sounding violin in my opinion. I would definitely consider it an upgrade to his first violin. My only complaint is that we did not receive the shoulder rest that was supposed to be a part of the package. Otherwise, would likely have given it 5 stars not because it is a perfect instrument but due to the value for the money.

No response from company regarding manufacturing defect
Bought this violin September 2019. The violin sounds great and seemed like a good deal for the cost and accessories included. Within less than 6 months of a 5th grader practicing about 3 times a week, we noticed the back piece of the bridge that secures it to the body of the violin was buckling. A well versed violinist advised it appeared to be a manufacturing defect so I headed to amazon to seek assistance. The support page offered contact information for the manufacturer. My first contact with Cecilio was March 2020. No response. Reached out again. No response. Reached out a third time figuring the zero response was due to the covid issue and limited staff. Nothing. Just contacted them again. Awaiting a response. But I have a feeling this will be a lost cause and a flush of $200. Disappointing. I expected better from what I have read to be a decent company with reliable starter violins. If seeking a violin with Dependable support, it may be best to look elsewhere.

Starter Violin; Missing Tuner and Book; Pegs Slip; Fine Tuner Stuck;
It's a perfectly fine starter violin. My violin advertised a book and a tuner which were both missing. I emailed both the email support that came with the violin and a separate email address found from their website. However, neither email had any sort of response after over a month. So, for this, I took off one star. I played violin and viola in my younger days, so I know how to tune a violin and maintain it. However, this violin has pegs that slip easily and fine tuners that are ridiculously difficult to turn, especially on the e-string. I tried adding wd40 to the fine tuners, but it hasn't helped. I tried adding soap to the pegs, which helped a little, but they're still prone to slipping. Because of this, I'm taking an additional star off. My kids are young, and I got this for them to try out. For that purpose, I think this purchase was fine. If you're expecting to receive everything that was advertised, I'd caution you to temper your expectations. There's no support for this item, in my experience.

CVN-300: Wonderful sound and beautiful color for the price.
This is the first year that my son is in band at school. Of course we got to band registration so late that all of the violins you could rent for the year were gone. I went to a music store looking for a Violin and then to Amazon. We choose the CVN-300 because we watched a music teacher review it on youtube. She played it and it sounded beautiful. The music teacher reviewer liked the CVN-100,200 & 300. But said if you can afford the CVN-300 compared to the CVN-200 you would not be sorry and that it was well worth the price difference (about $30). Before I saw the review I was all set to buy the CVN-200 but at the last minute switched to the 300 after watching the review and hearing the difference between the 200 & 300. The instrument is a beautiful color and does not look cheap. It looks exactly the same as the $400 instrument the music store was going to sell us. We could not be any happier. My sons' music teacher at school said it was a nice instrument. We are very happy that we decided to purchase the CVN-300 and would recommend it to any parent whose child may or may not play again the next year. This is a Good buy.

Awesome Value!
I was hesitant to buy a violin online for my child, but since I myself play the violin, I felt confident that I could fix it up and make it work if necessary. There were a few minor ajustments that needed to be made initially, such as placement of the bridge, but overall, I was very impressed with the violin. The main problem I had initially was that it came with a broken g-string fine tuner (which is not necessary, but super nice for beginners). I contacted the seller about that and they very quickly provided me with a replacement fine tuner. In the seven month that we have owned this violin, I have been very pleased. The sound quality is quite nice, and the value is unmatched. I am very glad that I saved myself so much money renting by buying this fine instrument instead.

A Lovely violin with excellent tone and a great price!
I researched a lot of violins on-line. I was looking for a violin which would be suitable for a beginner, but still be nice enough for someone of intermediate level. I am new to the violin, but not new to music - and coming from the Mandolin, the violin is not too far a leap (other then bowing of course!). Originally I chose a different make/model, but after watching several reviews by experienced players who don't work for Cecilio, but simply recommended this violin (CVN 300), I decided to spend just a little more then planned and buy this one. I can honestly say I am not disappointed - actually I'm very pleasantly surprised! I read some of the negative reviews on here, and realize that although one or two may have gotten a damaged product, the majority of complaints are caused because they don't have a clue what they are doing - lol. The violin came to me set up, with bridge in place, and strung with D'addario Prelude strings - although this was not mentioned in the write up and from the picture, I assumed it would have the Cecilio strings. It does have the extra set of strings which are Cecilio along with all that you need to get started, including 2 bows which are quite nice. After 10 minutes of rosin (the rosin is excellent and I followed directions and scratched it's surface in order to facilitate the application), I was ready to go! I checked the included tuner/metronome against another that I have and against our piano and found that it functioned very well and within another 10 minutes, I had the violin tuned - predominately using the fine tuners. The pegs are lovely and I did use two of them for a bigger "jump" in tuning, but they did not slip or cause any concern. And then I played my first scales - wonderful! On to learning more and thank you for such a great violin at such an affordable cost! I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great violin at a good price - BUT be smart, learn a bit before you grab it out of the box, (there is a pdf manual to download right on the Amazon sale site!), and you'll do very well!

Good first violin, had a few issues...
I feel as though I'm lucky having owned previous instruments as it gave me the knowledge to fix some issues I was having with this violin. I'll try and describe them to help anyone else out who has the same issues. Firstly, I was really annoyed trying to tune the strings up and having the knob just move back to its original position (slipping). To fix this all you have to do is turn the knob and push it into the violin and it should work "normally" for the rest of your tuning, without having to re-push it. Secondly, I was not about to sit and rosin a bow for 5-10 mins as per the instructions. Instead I got a knife and shaved away the protective coating of the rosin. I was able to rosin the bow in 20-30 seconds. Now some negative things I noticed that I have not been able to fix (luckily none have to do with the actual violin): - (read edit below) the tuner does not work correctly, I had to use tunerr.com. The tuner does not hear anything. The metronome works fine though. - the case always wants to close, which is annoying. If it was able to open just a bit more then gravity would solve the issue but as it is, it always wants to close on you. - the shoulder rest in not comfortable (might just be me). I find it easier to play without it on. - some of the finish on the neck has come off. It's a black coating and in one (kinda big) spot you can see brown wood. Everything else about the violin is good. It was shipped a day early and is really fun to play. The sound to me is exactly what it sounds like on youtube videos if you search for cvn300. Besides the one spot where they forgot the black coating, the violin looks really nice. After the strings got settled they stayed in tune fairly well. I would recommend this violin as a good first violin. I imagine it will last me for a long enough time until I'm ready to upgrade. ***EDIT*** I e-mail the e-mail provided with the violin and they sent me a new tuner

Not as advertised
The fingerboard is not real ebony. It's painted black. My daughter's fingers turned black after playing the violin for a few minutes. Even the neck of the violin started turning black from paint smearing over it. Sound quality is poor either due to low string quality of the violin itself.
