Easy, economical, and beautiful craft for kids!
This is a great and easy marbling kit and I plan to use it for an after school craft program at the library. A tiny amount of ink goes a long way, so you can really stretch your budget! I bought the packs of 100 sheets of rice paper that Amazon suggested in the "buy together" bundle, and have been very pleased with the vibrant colors that result. I did a few different tests with different types of paper though, to see the difference. I tried Bristol Smooth Surface drawing paper, and found that it produced designs that were very light indeed, even after I manually attempted to remove the sizing by rubbing it under running water. The rice paper had a much more vibrant color so that's what I plan to use with my kids. Getting rice paper wet does make it fragile, so I'm having them fold the sheet in half and treat it as one sheet of paper - that seems to solve the fragility problem. See my photos for examples of the different things I tried.

These inks are easy to use and can create so much beautiful paper/stationery
These inks are easy to use and can create so much beautiful paper/stationery. Personally have never used them on fabric so I can't speak to that. The instructions are a little dicey but there are good videos on YouTube for Suminagashi. I think Blick has a good video. It is a good idea to wear old clothes and gloves when using these inks. It is worth noting that the red ink produces more of a pink color. You can mix inks to create unique shades. Different papers react differently with the inks it is a good idea to try different types-100% cotton fiber for example. I have used these kits with kids and adults and everyone is delighted with how easy it is to create lovely paper. No artistic skill is necessary. A good activity for a summer afternoon with kids of a fun project to make love notes. Enjoy!

Fun to experience
Fun to experience! This kit works as it should, did not leak in transit, and has decent quality inks included. I wish it had greater color variety, but thatโs my only critique. The instructions were good, and we were able to create some fun prints.

Some instructions
I did this with my niece and nephew and the results were much more vibrant than the pictures I see on here. Very bright. I wonder if this is because all of the materials are printed in Japanese so the directions are missed. There are 4 total packs of powder inside that you mix with water, but there are 2 different kinds of powder. The pack with a 1 & 100ml on it is to treat the paper prior to dipping, you mix the powder with 100ml of water and then sponge the paper with it. I put it in a spray bottle and completely misted the paper and then let it dry before dipping. The pack with a 2 & 800ml on it is to treat the dipping water, you mix the powder with 800ml of water. I used heated but not boiling water and then my stick blender, after I put in the fridge for a couple hours. But you want to let the water get back to room temperature before using. The first attempt had some of the ink sink to the bottom, I think this may have been that I didnt let the water warm up quite to room temperature before using or maybe there is some other reason. But the attempts afterwards did not really have that problem. After dipping, the pictures need to be gently rinsed off with water(not back into the dipping water) and then let to dry, the ink/paint dries pretty quickly but the water may take longer. I used watercolor paper, I will try with printer paper too to see if that makes the more muted colors but it is very bright result. None of the paints had leaked, but one did have a dropper that seems to have clogged.

Wonderful product, but delivery was disappointing
First off: I was disappointed that the item was poorly handled, the box and inner liner was crushed, the paint bottles fell out in the bag, though thankfully they were not damaged or leaking. This would be my first time I received an item mishandled like this. They really need to instruct drivers to be more gentle. As for the product, I've used these paints before long ago, and no doubt they'll be just as vibrant and intense as before. I mainly use them for suminagashi, orizomegami, and normal marbling. The best paper I've used for these is a high absorbent one, like thin watercolor. Copy paper can work in a pinch, but you have to watch it so I won't absorb too much water and sink to the bottom.

We are going to do this very soon
I am so excited to teach this technique to my kids, for those who have never used it, do a simple you tube search on marbling. Basically you get a big pan of water, than add a dot of color, than put another color in the middle of that dot and so on. Get construction paper, or something thick, and it absorbs the picture you made in the water!! This is so fun, and a kit will last a long time. You could even use this in classrooms. It didn't work well at all with printer paper, but construction paper was good. There is another technique that is included in the box as well, but I haven't learned how to do it... I thought this would be very costly, and was surprised to see if wasn't, so I had to order it. I homeschool my daughter and the bulk of her learning is with arts and crafts. I think we will do this, this week. If so, I'll be sure to take pictures to upload here later. We will do it outside on the carport. I'm not worried about the marbling dye, but the water pan! I'm just going to use a shallow storage bin. I hope this helps

I am always looking for art projects that are easy to set up
Having led art workshops in multiple settings with participants of various ages and abilities, I am always looking for art projects that are easy to set up, clean up, and manage. I found about Suminagashi when looking for art from different cultures. I was super stoked to see how easy this form of art was. There are a lot of videos on youtube (both in English and Japanese) to show examples of this art form. I have made this paint before in the past but the results are not as consistent. I have bought 3 packs of this for future projects. The only aspect that I wish was different is that there is a way to buy this in bulk for people who might need a greater amount of this product. This product can be used from younger kids to adults.
