I am not a Stallone 'fan'. I am not concerned with H-wood ego's, whether Stallone or Norman Jewison wrote the script I don't care. Whether it was 14 mins shorn I don't care. What I care about is history. This is a warts 'n all depiction of American Trade unionism in the Age of Capital. The Big bosses, who would send in the bully boys, and the cops who were on the Capitalist pay-roll, killing or sacking whosoever got in the way of the profit imperative. This is a great film. Beats Rocky all ends up. The Yank middle class nay sayers, they are apolologists for Capitalists who were happy to pay for Fascist bully boys but not pay for social programs. This must be understood in the context of 'Organised crime', the Sicilian Mafia, the mob were fighting their own class war. After all what is Capitalism but organised crime but they have the Fascist State, the Guns the Bombs the Drones on their side. This is a great film. It would not be made today. The American white middle class pussy foot around this issue. watch this film if you want to have an inkling what they are pussy footing around. Forget the 14 min's. the Stallone romantic inserts. When the base ball bats and the bullets are flying. This beats 'Reds' any day of the week for a social history of the American Working Class.

I saw this movie some years ago on TV & was keen to see it again. This release from Koch Media once again shows how good Germany is at doing top-quality blu-ray transfers. The film itself is a superb study of how corruption destroyed the trade unions in America. Sylvester Stallone is superb & has excellent support from the likes of Melanda Dillon, Peter Boyle & especially Rod Steiger as the senator who has every intention of getting to the bottom of it all. The action genre (especially Rocky & Rambo) may have been where Sly made his name, but you can't help but wish he'd done more movies like this.

Great movie. Vastly underrated. Basically the Jimmy Hoffa story.

Yes it did, brilliant film and enjoyed watching it again after all these years, (one of the best Stallone films in our opinion), worth buying and really great story line to it.

This film makes a better job at detailing the Checkered History of American Union/Teamsters than the more drawn out Hoffa ever could.You get Stallone in semi Serious mode (By that I mean its hard to take the Boxer/Gun toting Killing Machine in a role like this) as well as the Great and Hammy Steiger. One of Stallone's Best.

The artwork has been changed and the disc no longer states blu-ray and DVD on the front.The product itself is from T2 Entertainment Soul Media.the synopsis on the back is in Dutch i think or Scandinavian. Picture is 1080/50i MPEG - 4 AVC, Sound Dolby Stereo, no special features just subtitles. I must say this is the best picture i have seen from this film and it's worth the purchase, it plays on UK players as stated on the back as region B.

1976 landete SYLVESTER STALLONE mit "Rocky" einen absoluten Volltreffer, mit "F.I.S.T. - Ein Mann gehet seinen Weg" versuchte er und UNITED ARTISTS an diesen Erfolg anzuknüpfen. Das gelang nicht wie gewünscht, zwar konnten die 10 Millionen $ Produktionskosten wieder eingespielt werden, allerdings blieb der Film trotzdem hinter den sehr hohen Erwartungen zurück. Ich persönlich kann das gar nicht verstehen, denn ich persönlich finde, dass es einer der besten Filme von STALLONE ist. Er spielt die Rolle des "John Kovak" sehr engagiert und leidenschaftlich, keine Ahnung warum der Film heute in Vergessenheit geraten ist. SYLVESTER STALLONE spielte nicht nur die Hauptrolle in diesem Film, er arbeitete auch am Drehbuch mit. Zwar schrieb JOE ESZTERHAS das Drehbuch alleine, aber nach dessen Vorstellungen wäre daraus ein sechststündiges Spektakel geworden. STALLONE kürzte es zusammen und baute Änderungen ein, weswegen er in den Credits dann als Co-Autor aufgeführt wurde. Die Figur des "Johnny Kovak" wurde an den legendären Arbeiterführer JIMMY HOFFA angelehnt, biografische Parallelen sind wirklich augenscheinlich und durchaus gewollt. "F.I.S.T. - Ein Mann ....." erzählt die Geschichte des Aufstieg eines amerikanischen Hilfsarbeiters, bis hin zum mächtigsten Gewerkschaftsboss der USA. JOHNNY KOVAK arbeitet als Transportarbeiter 14 Stunden am tag, die Bezahlung ist mies, die Ungerechtigkeiten und die Willkür der Arbeitgeber sind unerträglich. Als es eines Tages zu einem Aufstand auf einer Verladerampe kommt, erkennt der Gewerkschaftsfunktionär MIKE MONAHAN (Richard Herd) die Führungsqualitäten von KOVAK, und nachdem dieser gefeuert wird, heuert ihn MONAHAN für die Fahrergewerkschaft F.I.S.T., die umgangssprachlich nur "Union" genannt wird, an. KOVAK und sein Freund ABE BELKIN (David Huffman) gewinnen sehr schnell an Einfluss und steigen in der Hierarchie auf, trotz allem stoßen die Gewerkschafter an ihre Grenzen. Als ein Streik der Gewerkschaft von den Arbeitgebern gnadenlos und brutal niedergeschlagen wird, begeht er einen folgenschweren Fehler, er wendet sich an seinen Freund VINCE DOYLE (Kevin Conway), der sich zu einem einflussreichen Gangster hochgearbeitet hat. Mit seiner Hilfe gelingt es JOHNNY seine Forderungen durchzusetzen und er gewinnt immer mehr an Macht. Doch im Laufe der Zeit verstrickt er sich immer mehr in zwielichtige Geschäfte und er erregt die Aufmerksamkeit von SENATOR MADISON (Rod Steiger), der einen Ausschuss zur Bekämpfung des organisierten Verbrechens leitet ..... "F.I.S.T." ist wirklich ein sehr spannender und mitreißender Film, für mich zählt er zu den besten die SYLVESTER STALLONE je gedreht hat. Die Story ist sehr spannend erzählt, Regisseur NORMAN JEWISON baut die Spannung stetig auf und schafft es, dass zu keinem Zeitpunkt Langeweile aufkommt. Auch die Darsteller wurden sehr gut ausgewählt, ich finde, dass hier fast alles richtig gemacht wurde. Neben SYLVESTER STALLONE hat mir noch KEVIN CONWAY sehr gut gefallen, er spielt den zwielichtigen "Vince Doyle" wirklich sehr gut. Grundsätzlich gibt es eigentlich keinen Darsteller, der irgendwie schlecht gewesen wäre, der Gesamteindruck ist stimmig und überzeugend. Auch die Kulissen und die Requisiten sind zeitgemäß, auch hier wurde sehr akribisch und detailverliebt gearbeitet. Die hier vorliegende Blu-ray-Edition beinhaltet die amerikanische Langfassung, also die vollständige Fassung des Films. Es sind NICHT beide Fassungen darauf, das ist auf der Disc etwas ungenau beschrieben. Einige Passagen wurden nicht synchronisiert, sie liegen deswegen nur im Original vor und wurden mit deutschen Texten untertitelt. Für mich das einzige Manko, ansonsten ist der Film sensationell gut, Bild- und Tonqualität sind sehr gut, natürlich nicht wie bei heutigen Produktionen, aber eindeutig verbessert zu früheren Veröffentlichungen. Mein Fazit: "F.I.S.T. - Ein Mann ....." ist nicht nur ein Unterhaltungsfilm, er arbeitet sich auch an sozialkritischen Aspekten ab. Die Arbeiterbewegung und deren Kampf für Gerechtigkeit und bessere Arbeitsbedingungen bildet den Rahmen für eine spannende Handlung. Die Figur des "Johnny Kovak" weist eindeutige Parallelen zu JIMMY HOFFA auf, der wohl zu den bekanntesten Gewerkschaftsbossen zählt. Ich finde den Film hervorragend, er zählt zu meinen absoluten Favoriten, deswegen gibt es von mir auch eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung. Meine Bewertung: 9 von 10 Punkten.

Film poignant montrant la montée d'un simple ouvrier jusqu'aux sommet du patronat syndicat, tiré d'une histoire vraie, Sylvester Stallone offre une prestation étincelante, avec un puissant charisme, grâce à un scénario qui ne souffre d'aucun complexe. Tout ou presque est retranscrit inspiré du vécu de Jimmy Hoffa et le syndicat des camionneurs d'un condensé bien plus détaillé qu'Irishman de Scorsese. Fraîchement propulsé au rang de star du cinéma après avoir enfilé les gants de Rocky en 1976, Sylvester Stallone se lancerait, en 1978, dans deux projets qui, mine de rien, s’imposent dans la plus parfaite continuité du récit de l’ascension du boxeur italien : l’autobiographique La Taverne de l’enfer, dont on vous a déjà parlé il y a un peu plus de deux ans, et F.I.S.T., un long métrage très politisé signé Norman Jewison, qui s’efforce d’orienter le regard du public vers la montée des syndicats et du mouvement ouvrier en Amérique à la fin des années 30. Co-scénarisé par Joe Eszterhas (qui signait ici son premier scénario) avec la participation de Stallone lui-même. Une reconstitution soignée, une mise en scène sobre et ample de Norman Jewison. Il ne fait pas l’impasse sur les violences et les injustices d’une époque impitoyable (les exactions des milices, les agressions, les meurtres). L’admirable casting ne gâche rien avec les belles compositions de Rod Steiger, Peter Boyle, Melinda Dillon et Tony Lo Bianco. Le film oppose remarquablement le physique pur et fragile de David Huffman à celui massif Stallone. On ne peut également que saluer le talent de Jewison pour filmer ces hommes durs et ces discussions animées, et la façon dont le syndicat commence à se former, F.I.S.T. multipliant dès lors les jeux de pouvoir et les liens le crime organisé. Une certaine violence est également de la partie, ouvriers et patronat ripostant chacun avec leur propre niveau d’agressivité, ce qui contribuera à ériger, lentement mais sûrement, le nom de transforme le nom de Johnny Kovac en légende, ce qui finira même par susciter l’intérêt de Washington. Le personnage d’Abe (David Huffman) est également particulièrement intéressant, dans le sens où plus qu’un ami, il est surtout représenté comme la « conscience » de Johnny, soulevant les objections du spectateur face aux méthodes employées afin de conserver son leadership, ce qui apporte une dimension psychologique supplémentaire à l’ensemble. Cela dit, les apports de Sylvester Stallone au scénario, que l’on devine étant ceux destinés à humaniser et à ériger son personnage en « héros de la classe ouvrière » tendent à faire de F.I.S.T. un film en contradiction avec lui-même, comme s’il avait constamment le cul entre deux chaises le film ébauche ainsi une critique des liens entre les organisations syndicales et le crime organisé, mais le fait de façon presque timide, comme s’il craignait de s’attaquer aux comportements gênants et aux mauvaises décisions qui, de tous temps, ont contribué à entacher le rayonnement du mouvement ouvrier. Pour terminer, petite anecdote pour les amateurs de rock : le rôle de Kevin, le fils de Stallone dans le film, est interprété par Anthony Kiedis, futur chanteur du groupe Red Hot Chili Peppers. Jewison prend le temps de poser son histoire et montrer chaque étape de la vie du personnage. Stallone nous livre une très belle interprétation vieillissant au fur et à mesure que le film avance. Mention spéciale aux maquilleurs auteurs d'un très joli travail avec à la clé un résultat convaincant. Chose tout aussi bien gérée et étonnante en matière d'évolution, l'histoire commence en 1937 pour nous porter jusqu'à l'entrée années 70 et les paysages se modernisent au fur et à mesure. Cela donne une authenticité toute particulière. Autre point positif : Les seconds rôles sont également consistants et la durée du film laisse le temps de montrer leur personnalité. Dans les dernières secondes du film, sur la route, un camion roule. À l'arrière du véhicule, un petit écriteau est collé et on peut y lire : "Where's JOHNNY ?". Norman Jewison semblant vouloir insister sur le fait que la chute du héros aura également laissé orphelins tous les adhérents du syndicat et également signifié la fin de leur rêve, le même que celui de Kovak. Une très jolie image. Le titre du film lui peut se lire de deux manières différentes. F.I.S.T. sont ainsi à la fois les initiales de la "Federation of InterState-Truckers " (" Fédération des Camionneurs Inter-Etats "), mais également le mot anglais "fist " correspondant au mot " poing", dont il est grandement fait usage dans ce film. Dans la réalité, le Syndicat dont il s'agit s'appelait " Teamsters Union " (Union des Routiers") et le personnage de Johnny Kovak s'inspire de la destinée de son président, Jimmy Hoffa, qui en fit l'un des groupements syndicaux les plus puissants des Etats-Unis. Accusé de corruption, il a fait l'objet de l'enquête d'une commission sénatoriale menée par Robert Kennedy, et fut envoyé en prison. Un soir de juillet 1975, Jimmy Hoffa fut kidnappé à la sortie d'un restaurant de Detroit et nul n'entendit plus jamais parler de lui. Généreux, humaniste et un brin manichéen (mais n’est-ce pas la définition du grand cinéma populaire ?), "FIST" s’impose comme un témoignage touchant de ces êtres voués à l’exploitation et qui finissent détruits par le grand capital qu’ils combattaient. Et cela, malgré l’apparente réussite de leurs combats sur le pouvoir des syndicats aux USA et leurs liens avec des organisations comme la Mafia. Les auteurs ont pensé à Jimmy Hoffa, qui présida la Teamsters Union et que Robert Kennedy tenta de briser. C'est aussi un excellent témoignage sur les méthodes de lutte des ouvriers contre le patronat. Si Stallone a un jeu monolithique, Steiger est ici excellent. Deux ans après "Rocky", Stallone incarne brutalement la fin des idéaux du rêve américain. Il se révèle excellent dans ce qui reste l’un des seuls grands rôles de sa carrière. Symbole de la révolte des prolétaires et des classes ouvrières, Stallone est un interprète idéal. Fresque amère, sociale et puissante emmenée par la musique de Bill Conti. Du beau, du grand cinéma américain.

This was an amazing film! Great story and great acting. Sylvester Stallone, an amazing actor...certainly does not disappoint! Everyone must watch this film. There is a passion and drive with all characters that bring this dramatic story to life! You will find yourself rooting for Sly's character and really admire his passion and charisma. I saw this on tv for the first time this year and had to buy it! Absolutely no regrets! I've already watched the dvd numerous times!
