sure I don't see why not, I have two large dogs and the light is not needed

That's why i got mine!! One of the dogs I'm training had a nasty ear that kept getting gunked up. This otoscope helped me, not only clean out his ear canal safely, but we found out what was really going on.

How do you Insert and change the light?

I am not sure however I have had this for about a year and use it a lot at work, as of yet I have not needed to change the batteries or bulb

Will the "standard" welch allyn speculums fit this otoscope? i purchased one similar to this one (different brand) welch allyn speculum wont fit.

No they will not, I have yet to find replacement covers however I clean the ones that came with it in alcohol for a few minutes and let dry.
