It took me many attempts to find a reliable shampoo that could help control my dermatitis that didn't have harsh chemicals like selenium sulfide and zinc. This is the only shampoo that comes close to a "natural remedy" that I have been able to find that actually works on dermatitis/dandruff. I cannot emphasize on how much money I spent looking for a shampoo like this. I have extremely thick coarse hair and this shampoo is great for that type of hair. If you've been on the search as well and have finally found this shampoo, then congratulations. - This shampoo does have a slight medicinal smell to it which is 100% attributed to the charcoal. - There is no lingering odor after rinsing like there is with selenium sulfide or zinc dandruff shampoos. - The conditioner that pairs with this shampoo smells incredible and 100% natural I recommend it. - A single bottle lasts longer than many off the shelf shampoos I've purchased. - One bottle tends to last 2-3 months for a single user.

This shampoo was bought for a relative with shoulder length curly, African American hair. She said: Dandruff I’ve had for years is completely gone after a few washes! I’ve used a lot of products that never helped. Only complaint is once I’ve started using it, a slightly weird smell develops near my scalp after a few days. It has reduced a lot though. So maybe it’s just build-up on my head gradually being worked on? I’m using apple cider vinegar and a Shea Moisture mask/conditioner as my conditioners. Not sure if that mix is the issue, but I rinse everything out. Nevertheless, I will continue using this shampoo since it works flawlessly for eradicating dandruff. 11/8/25: Editing to add that it’s been almost 4 years now and still using this. There are no more weird smells after using it, so it has definitely done its job cleaning my hair. No more dandruff! My hair is growing strong and healthy. Every now and then I use another cleansing shampoo, but I love this shampoo. I think the difference for why this works so well for dandruff compared to others is the combination of coal tar and the anti-fungal, Ketoconazole.

This shampoo works, if you can stand the smell. No scalp irritation but I rinse it really good. I do feel my hair loss is less. I don’t use it when I know I have to go out because the smell as I said is rough.

Great Product!

Literally the only shampoo that I can use on my dry, sensitive scalp. It definitely slowed shedding as well. I had tried almost everything on the market, and even used medicated shampoo from my dermatologist. Nothing worked before this!

I'm not a big spender on body care products. I was looking for a replacement for Tgal, gone from the market due to a spurious, foolish settlement. This had good reviews on rddt, so I watched for it to go on sale. OK, so this isn't as nice on my hair as Tgel was... and costs a fair bit more that chain store substitutes - but note it is a large bottle. One pump is just right for me. Going to last a long time. Doesn't lather at all which is a big downside (told apparently many premium products don't.... as the lather is from a chemical that is not environmentally friendly). Scent is pleasant- a crisp herbal- maybe tea tree oil? - over the tar scent. Gave it 12-14 days to get used to. Nope, don't foresee ever buying it again. Value just isn't there and the not lathering an issue (lather cleans my ear canals, so is a must)

**UPDATE** I have used this product for over one full year. The last bottle I purchased IS NOT THE SAME formula as previous purchases. They same it is the same formula in a new package, but I still had some older shampoo left to compare it to and IT IS NOT THE SAME. This new version is pure overpriced JUNK. IT is severely watered down compared to the older, better, version. I will NOT purchase again.*** I first got the 8OZ set and liked it. I then purchased this larger shampoo bottle. The bigger bottle smelt completely different than the first smaller bottle I tried. They say they are the exact same product. For the price, I expected it to be better. The larger bottle arrived with what appeared to be soap all over the outside of the bottle. The bottle was covered in protective plastic and the layer of soap was under that layer. Once I removed it to use the product, my hands were covered in a soapy residue. Upon first use, I noticed it smelt far differently than the first bottle. It also does not seem to do as good of a job as the first bottle I got. I probably will not buy again, at least not through Amazon. I am getting too many items from Amazon now that seem to be of lower quality than the same items coming from actual stores.

Bought it to treat hair loss and kept using it because of how well it manages my sebhoreic dermatitis. I’ve been using it for over 3 years now. Good stuff here and also free from all these nasty chemicals. When using it make sure to lather and leave it for 5min, it could be a little drying use a little bit coconut oil after you wash your hair to moisturize. Hands down best shampoo I’ve used.
