great book for carousel animals, good pictures, nice colors, and fast delivery

Beautiful book with an animal to color per page. Like the examples of colored animals included inside front and back cover. There are comments at the bottom of each page which are interesting and because of page placement they do not distract from the picture. You could cut the comments off if you wanted to hang your picture. Paper is durable enough for normal pressure with a colored pencil without bleeding through. I did not try markers or watercolors, so I can't advise there. Some pictures are more detailed than others with smaller areas to color, but definitely not as hard to color as many of the other adult coloring books. Arrived as expected and price was ok. (16 horses, the rest are other animals) Coloring is a great relaxing activity for anyone...not just those with artistic abilities. Book and colored pencils take little room to add to your luggage or stash in your desk at work for break time! Great for taking the stress out of your day!

From a little girl, I've always liked coloring books. Also, I like very much Carousel horses. I used to oil paint, but since the Rheumatoid Arthritis got so bad, I changed over to "adult" type coloring books. These horses are beautifully sketched. It gives indications where shadowing should be etc. When I color, I do it the same as I used to paint. All the lights and shadows are there etc. I color in both crayon, and metallic pencils. I've done two horses so far, and they came out good enough to frame.I think this type of coloring book would be better for an older child who is serious about "doing a good job of it". It is perfect for an adult who like me, has the love of color, shading, and would like to make a lovely project more beautiful. This is a lovely book, and a joy to work on. It has a calming effect. I just got this book today. I love carousels. This book does not disappoint. The pictures are wonderful renderings of times gone by. Each page has one animal along with a description of the style. A great way to learn.I use colored pencils so the paper quality is fine. No bleeding thru. It also does not bother me that the pages are printed on two sides.The only negative, and it is small, is that the pictures are drawn in a simple style that will have no coloring challenges at all. They are very realistic. This book could easily be for children younger than eight.

Good drawings for simple or advanced coloring, with historical notes. Dover never disappoints.

This is a nice book, a little history lesson on carousels, which is pretty cool. My disappointment lies in that the paper is thinner than many other books and the pictures are on both sides of the paper. Thus with thinner paper you get bleed thru if using gel pens or brush markers, so you want to use pencil only. Still, even with pencil, if you shade and use any amount of pressure doing so when you color the image, the opposite page will have traces of color on the next page/image, which is a shame since this book has some really great images.

4 stars because the lack of clean areas to color and clear pictures. The pictures have shading already, like book illustrations. Some are nice and clear to actually color, but pictures like the tiger in this book are not really colorable. It has so much shading and detail, coloring it would make it look terrible. This book has facts on each page relating to carousels, which is nice. The covers have colored pictures on them that are very pretty. I enjoy the book, but I wish there were less ink on some of the pages so I could actually put some color on them.

Bought it, loved colouring it, and would do it again. Cheerful, and informative, if like me you've always loved carousels, go for it. It tells you about American carousel history.

Nice pics. I look forward to colouring in with bright colours and metallic pens. Shame that the pages are so thin and two sided, so felt tip pens absolute no-no.

Nice book of good quality, as you would expect from Dover. They make great coloring books and this one is no different. If you enjoy carousels you will probably enjoy this book as much as I do. Definitely worth the money~
