What are the tablets flavored with

I do not know. I give my dogs the tablets -- 4 a day for my 80 and 118 pound dogs and 1 a day for the 20 pounder. They didn't work for the new grass I put in last Spring. I may have to find something different for my dogs.

Are they tablets or soft chews?

They are tablets. Small and round. We add them on top of our dog's food and he eats them no problem. We don't disguise them in any way. (Golden Retriever)

Do they need to be a certain age to start Grass savers and Do they shorten the life span?

I've never seen anything that would indicate a shortening of the life as a results of taking these pills, as well as any age limit. Frankly, we stopped giving them to our dog as, after using them daily for a year, we saw no positive effect. We still have numerous yellow spots in our back yard.
