Thank you, Bayer. This monitor is a DREAM to use!
I want everyone to know how incredibly LUCKY you are to have this meter and lancet device. I have not had to test in 18 years, back when I had gestational diabetes. I am now testing again after menopause. This is night and day relative to what I used to use -- this thing is a dream. The monitor is small and easy to use. The lancet device is SO MUCH BETTER. Even on the "large blood drop" setting (ie, the "poker" for your finger is adjustable to various depths) where you extract more blood, you can barely feel it...and yet, when you wait a moment after using it, enough blood comes out of the tiny little hole to make the test work. My old lancet device used to hurt -- A LOT -- all day long. It left holes all over my hands. This won't do that. The other remark that I would make is that the instructions for this device are very clearly written. Sometimes with these types of devices, you get so frustrated trying to figure them out. Bayer must have devoted quite a bit of time to ensue that the user manual is clearly written. This is not some manual that was written in China. I didn't have to go and reread anything -- just opened it up and within 10 minutes, after perusing the booklet, did my first test. I don't have a life-and-death situation to monitor, so it is important to consider my situation if you do (ie, people for whom this device is a lifesaver might have other thoughts). But, for someone who is using it just to watch the sugar now and then, it is a piece of cake. One tip: the only problem I did have was when I used my test strips. The first test I did gave me a number outside of the valid test strip range. I had not done a gentle shake of the testing solution prior to using, which the manual says is necessary. I redid the test after gently shaking the bottle and it came out fine.

Reasonably priced meter and test strips
This is a nice glucose test kit. It is cheap and includes everything I needed to start tracking my glucose level. Best of all, this is not a hook where the company sells you a cheap meter and then gets you with expensive strips. No. The test strips are reasonably priced at around 20 cents per strip. After 200+ tests, the readings seem pretty consistent so far - if I eat the same food, I would get very similar readings afterwards. There were a few unusual readings, but those turned out to be the effect of the food itself. For example, after consuming a double burger, my glucose level went up and then down in an hour, but up again near the 1.5 half mark. Not sure about accuracy though. I did compare it with a tester of another brand. Their readings were similar at fasting level, but differed by a bit (>15) at higher levels.

Great price and great glucose machine
This is awesome the price and it works perfect. Its a starter kit so it comes with 10 test strips and 10 lancet. For the price I'm loving the availability for people that have no healthcare or just can't afford to buy it as for other sites it's much more costly than Amazon.I would definitely recommend this to anu onyone who just want to check their glucose. You can't beat this price. Also you can purchase additional lancets and strip.

Works Great - Starter Kit doesn't include enough to start
My doctor recommended that I get a glucose meter to monitor my blood sugar for a month or so. So I didn't want spend a bundle, but at the same time I wanted a meter that worked easily and consistently. I read amazon reviews and also looked at Consumer Report. This monitor was rated as one of the best, and from my interpretation of the rating symbols, the most accurate. So I put together my order- this kit, extra lancets, and some of the test strips. The other kits I was considering ordering included some of the test solution, so I didn't notice that this one did NOT until it arrived. This kit includes:* The metering device* The lancing device* 10 lancets* Directions (long version and quick guide)* Clinilog - which is a little booklet formatted to make recording your test results easy. (It fits in the little carry bag too.)When I looked at the reviews of those who ordered the control solution from amazon- the reviews were bad- product box was dirty, had been opened, etc. I didn't want to order it. As it turns out, pharmacies (CVS, Target, etc) do not carry this on the shelf. They have to special order it. Delay delay delay. (I am used to amazon prime- order it now & have it right away, so this tests my small amount of patience.)So basically, I have had the meter for over a week, still no control solution- which the directions say to use regularly, especially before the first time you use it. Well, guess what- I went ahead and started using it last night anyway. The numbers it gives seem reasonable to me- though mine is an unqualified opinion. The lancing device works fine- I put the adjustment right in the middle of the depth range and that worked well for me. It didn't hurt but the drop was big enough. It only takes a tiny drop of blood to test- this is a real bonus. (The last time I had to do this was about 10 years ago and the huge improvement in these devices is obvious to me.)So- because the meter is easy to use, compact, and 'seems accurate'- I give it 4/5 stars. If you are diabetic and are using these measurements to calculate insulin you should make sure that you get some of the control test solution from your pharmacy or something. In case a manufacturer reads this- It would totally be worth an increase in price for the convenience of having a bottle of control solution included!
