National Geographic Photo Basics: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Great Photography

Nice quality paperback bought pre owned looked like new would definitely buy more preowned from this seller. Clear precise instructions on basic photography bought for my grand daughter as doing photography at school.

This book was an excellent buy. Tells you all about the basics of photography. I'm half way through reading this book and it's so easy to understand. It has pictures so gives you a better understanding of what they are describing. I've learnt quite a bit just from playing with the camera and reading this book. I recommend.

Fantastic book very easy to follow.

A decent primer imbued with practical experience and expertise in plain language.

This book is good but only goes so far. The Achilles heel is not the quantity of example photos but the complete lack of camera settings for each photo. For example the images in the chapter "working in low light" are clearly very good but without the camera settings the reader has no starting point. This is true for every chapter. This is less relevant for the composition chapter but for the sections on Exposure it's maddening. Phrases like "I set my shutter speed slow enough" (p 37) simply aren't good enough. So the claim to be "The Ultimate Beginner's Guide" is far from being true.

This was bought as a present. The quality of the book was great along with the price!

Nice and simple with no boring intellectual boring bits

i love Joel Sartore. i have his national geographic video series and have followed him for a long time. I have many photography books but this one is my favourite for a beginner photographer. Each lesson is short - no more than 2 pages devoted to each lesson. It's to the point, easy to understand and beautifully illustrated with his photographs. He doesn't over analyze, and the reader isn't bogged down in theories and technical jargon. There are the usual lessons on aperture, ISO, shutter speed etc but it is presented very simply. Lots of great tips throughout the book for the experiential learner. The only downside to this book, is that it isn't digital.

If you're a beginner in professional photography, invest in this book. Its worth more than any YouTube tutorial. However if you're already a professional, the second half of this book is what you would be needing. Either way its a great book to gain more understanding in photography. National Geographic really did a great job!

Easy to follow and assignments to try out. Shall it on my next trip.
