Mastering 3D Printing (Technology in Action)

For nearly twenty years I have been hearing about 3D printing in the news and in investing advisories. Well, curiosity finally got the best of me so I purchased this text just to see what it was all about. First this is a very well written text and ideal for someone without a clue about the technology. The author pulled no punches and described the potential and limitations of this technology in such a manner than even I came away feeling informed not only about what the average Jil or Joe might do with this technology, but just how savvy one would have to be in order to do something useful with it (i.e., aside from printing out some little plastic frogs). For someone planning to invest in 3D printing but really knows nothing about it, this is your book. Whether you plan to purchase a printer or shares of stock in the industry, this book is an eye opener. For those who know 3D printing is their next step into the “maker world” but not sure how to get started and what tools and knowledge they must have, this book is a good place to start. For those of those of us still struggling with our 2D printers directly linked to our computer with a cable (don’t tell me about cloud printing - please), this book is a great read and a fair warning to watch from the sidelines.

As an engineer I appreciated the level of detail about the extrusion process. This book has more detail about designing for a good 3d print than about operating the printer itself. Highly recommended read.

A wonderful book! Complete, clear, well illustrated. The Table of Contents contains everything I wish I had known about 3d printing when I got started five months ago. I have to mention that this is extremely well-written. It's not dumbed down, and it's not full of inscrutable insider jargon. The book is highly visual, full of illustrations, and real world photos of printer set up and functions. This book is packed with useful content, in fact, it seems to have covered virtually everything I need to know. Readable enough to go through cover to cover; organized so well that it is easy to find specific information on any issue you face during printing.

I purchased this book in the hopes that it would have detailed information on the settings used in slicing software. Instead, it only has a chapter on slicing settings for common types of 3D prints...without explanations on the purpose of those settings. Although this is an excellent introductory book, it comes no where near the level of providing a mastery of 3D printing.

Not really worth the money, it contains the same info as the free or 1.99 books.

This book really covers the entire spectrum of current home 3D Printing. I'm still new to the whole thing, but felt this was a great compliment to my desktop 3D printer. There really isn't anything out there like this. Also, thankfully, the book is very pro "open source". I never got the feeling that the writer was pushing me towards any one printer, yet I feel like the information presented here can help me with my own printer. The book feels like its written by someone who is on the front lines of the movement and is an easy, enjoyable read.

Before i read this book, i haven't got imagination about 3d printing technology and 3d printers at all. And this book give me a lot base information. This book won't give you assembly instructions how to make your own printer, but it will give you good background to move on in right direction.

One of the only books I could find that lays out 3D printing in a way that allows me to design and print myself.
