Q: What kind of knife works best? Serrated? 8" Chef's? Other?

I’m a knife sharpening nut, so anything longer than 7 inches that is handy is fine. But if you are less compulsive about sharpness, I suspect serrated would be best.

This is one of the best kitchen gadgets I own - and for such a reasonable price. I watched the YouTube video before the first time, and it really is as easy as they show. I've used it for smaller tomatoes, grapes, mushrooms, strawberries and shrimp. Lay food in the bottom tray, put the top on, and put the knife between the two, and slice away. I will say a sharp knife make a HUGE difference. I've bought several more as gifts.

Q: Could one use this device to prepare hamburger patties also?

That’s a great idea! It is 6 inches in diameter which is larger than a typical burger. If you use it to press patties you don’t want to press the meat So it fills the entire base. For a typical sized burger, you can put a 1/4 lb ball of meat in the base and gently press on the lid until you get the desired thickness of the patty.

Q: can you slice a big tomato for like cheeseburgers plz.??

Yes, the base of the Rapid Slicer is 1/4" deep so you could make tomato slices that are 1/4" thick. Place the tomato in the base of the Rapid Slicer, then placing a sharp knife on the top edge of the base as your guide, run your knife through the tomato to create your first slice. Remove the slice from the base and repeat until you've sliced the entire tomato. You can use this same technique with other vegetables such as eggplant and onions to get thin, even slices.
