ABOUT BERRY BROS. & RUDD With two Royal Warrants, over 300 years of history and six Masters of Wine, Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain's original wine and spirits merchant. Still run by members of the Berry and Rudd families, everything you should look for in a wine or spirit comes down to one simple question: "Is it good to drink?" DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE The fruit for this wine comes from a single vineyard set on Old Winchester Hill (the site of an Iron Age fort). The vineyard is ed on Upper Cretaceous chalk (exactly the same as that found in Champagne). The steep south-facing slope increases sunlight concentration per square metre, providing ripening potential. WINEMAKING NOTES The wine spent 11 months on its lees in tank, developing a richer character, before assemblage. Blending and triage took place in September 2011, and the wine then spent a further 65 months on its lees, being disgorged in March 2017. The small production volume enables us to age the wine longer pre-disgorgement, thus allowing the typically high level of to mellow, and the wine to gain complexity while retaining its characteristic freshness.
