The Wild Cat Book: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Cats

Excellent book for getting started on learning about wild cats' biology, habits, and conservation efforts. Details each species and unique cat physiology and conservation needs. My kid desires to be a zoologist and loves this book. Great for those looking for more detail than the average vanilla book. Well researched work. I only wish it covered details on all of the subspecies, but that would be a bigger book I suppose.

This book really does cover "everything I ever wanted to know about cats"! Excellent pictures and distribution maps accompany expert descriptions of characteristics, behavior, prey, and other issues understandable by lay people. DNA allowed an informative Cat Family Tree going back millions of years. It also answers those odd questions like "are there black Florida panthers". The pictures are great for children, while the details are great for adults. This organized book is now my reference for enjoyment and cat knowledge.

The Wild Cat Book is thorough and well researched.Most cat species are illusive and therefore tough to study. This book presents easily accessible and well-structured information on a wide variety of cat species even those we know little about because they are incredibly difficult to observe in the field. I believe that the authors drawn on not only their own extensive experience but also incorporated the findings of other accomplished scientists to make this book comprehensive and scientifically sound.In addition to covering key aspects of cat ecology, I appreciate the commentaries on conservation concerns regarding several species.Being a cat enthusiast and someone in the field of ecology and conservation, I find this book extremely useful as an initial reference to further, in-depth feline research. The captivating photos and easy-to-read text captures the imagination of children as well. I spent most of today reading the book with my friend’s little boy☺.Well done. Definitely highly recommended!

The book is a good reference book. It is a little out dated. The cat have had some Latin name changes. This seem to happen now and then. The number species has been addicted since the book was printed.

I own several of the Sunquist's books and have just bought this one to add to my library. It is written in a very readable style by Authors who really know their subjects. The photos are spectacular and the text very interesting and accessible to cat-lovers of any age. This is a gift that a child will cherish and read over and over again. What's not to love?
