Brilliant SQM, easy to setup for a novice.
I live in a rural area. Went from 25mb copper to 150mb fibre. Download and upload was faster but, overall lag still there. Loaded ping not a lot better on fibre Vodaphone Power Hub. Plugged in Brume 3, tried a few options, tried SQM and loaded ping now less than idle ping with only a small trim from overall upload and download speed. Lag is noticeably better. Wireguard VPN into Proton works great too, VPN download speeds excellent. I am a complete novice with this stuff, it was easy for me to do. Is it worth £110 to fix latency? For me, yes. Great device.

Perfect Router for home use.
Needed a new router to replace my trusted Ubiquiti ER-X after ISP upgraded to 2.5Gb. Decided to go for the GL-MT5000 and very happy with the decision. Easy to set-up and fine tune for home use.

Excellent non wifi router.
Excellent device to use as a home router with vpn capabilities. I actually don't use the vpn, I use it for routing and monitoring my connection. It has graphs showing use by protocol/application (e.g, it can identify apps such as Instagram, ring, Google etc and you can see download totals). Also has QoS and even with hardware acceleration disabled hardly bothers the cpu. Note to use data statistics and the dpi engine hardware acceleration has to be disabled. This hasn't caused me any issues though. Should you be a power user you also have access to the full openwrt LuCI interface for more detailed control. Highly recommended.

An absolute monster in a little plastic box!
I have a few gl.Omer devices, I really like them! I’ve set a few of the mangos up for friends and family as VPN gateways and THIS ONE IS An absolute monster in a little plastic box! I’ve got mulvad (wireguard) encrypting my entire network, both the main lan and the iot/guest networks plus Tailscale advertising my entire subnet.. for anyone who knows, I’ve retired a netgate 1100 running pfsense+ for this, so simple to set up! And if I want to add some complexity to the mix, you get to install LuCI so the entire openwrtOS is available to you to create as many firewalls as you like! BUT in its native form, if you are wanting this to run as a vpn AND a Tailscale exit node, the exit is fine (you need to ssh in to set it as an exit node) but the exit traffic is handled WAN side so it never sees the VPN.. I’m not quite sure right now if LuCI allows us to wire it up differently..

Private VPN solution
Wow. So I had an old micro pc hanging about and I built a VPN server (Linux). Then I bought the brume and WireGuard’ed it to VPN to my home pc. It is brilliant! Everything on the remote network while I am away goes through my local network, avoiding any issues with commercial VPNs. I am super impressed. The brume just worked. Seriously. Setup once, and haven’t had to touch it since. Just brilliant.

Tiny beast VPN gateway
Best device I got. Just changed my whole networking at home with different VPN setups and my personal wireguard and tailscale. Seems to handle speeds higher than other devices. It's tiny so can even take it and use it for tether. Atm have it setup infront my mesh so all the house traffic goes through the different VPN routines I've got. Can policy route by IP / Mac address... Many many options.

Great product
This is ideal for anyone that wants that extra layer of security for remote working. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. It's not quite a beginners guide, but it's simple enough to get you up and running in no time. It doesn't seem to affect network performance in any negative way and once set up you really don't even notice the difference. The DPI protection is great, giving an extra level of security. I like the fact that it has built in openwrt, but it seems to be a fork of the original open source software for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it should be advertised as such. Speeds are good, connection is nice and stable, its small and fairly well priced. If you are looking for a wired VPN gateway this will probably be fine, the only features lacking are wifi or cellular, but that's not what this is and it would be much more expensive. Small, portable, easy to setup, easy to keep maintained with a well thought out GUI. They are doing something right here, 4 stars.

GL.iNet MT5000 (Brume 3)
This device is a "you have to have it", absolutely amazing transfer capabilities, performance and settings for such a small device. Only after purchasing it did realize how useful and necessary it is in my network. Without a cooling fan, it should be that way so as not to suck in dust, etc. Very low power consumption, so as a security gate it will work great when traveling. The VPN speed (in the attached picture) explains everything. I really recommend it.

Brume 3 is truly everything you could want in your home or office with a rock-solid performance.
I picked up the Brume 3 to replace my Netgear DDWRT R9000. Setup was straightforward right out of the box. Since I don’t need or use I ran it purely wired with some TP Link Deco AP’s — and I honestly can’t tell any real-world difference in performance compared to the bigger/more expensive “big brother” models like Flint 2 or even Flint 3. The DPI feature is a nice touch unfortunately you can do anything with it, like policy-based routing etc. Nevertheless nice to look at. The Router delivers excellent speeds (up to that advertised 1100 Mbps on VPN), handles multi-WAN, OpenWrt customization, and DPI/security features flawlessly. Super compact, fanless, and reliable — exactly what I needed for a secure, high-performance wired setup without the wireless overhead. If you’re looking for a powerful VPN/security gateway that just works (especially if you don’t need built-in Wi-Fi), this is an outstanding choice. Highly recommend!

Great VPN gateway, VPN throughput is not as advertised in my tests.
Great little VPN gateway. I have a Slate AX as well for WireGuard server duties. Although I have not gotten close to 1100mbps VPN throughput in my tests. The best so far was around 650mbps; that was in an almost perfect scenario between 2 devices connected on public IP addresses behind my AT&T gateway. In similar tests without a VPN, I was getting 980mbps. So there was no bottleneck. I also have 2x Beryl AX for travel. With that said, it has worked great so far, but the VPN performance gain is minimal over the Slate AX. However, it does have 2.5GE vs the 1GE ports on the Slate AX. This may be beneficial if you are also using it as a gateway for LAN devices. I am only using it as a VPN router for WireGuard and TailScale with LAN access to my NAS. If you can get it on sale, it is a great little device for the money.
