Don't get me wrong. This is a well made product for the price and I'm sure it is great for fermenting certain products such as pickled cucumbers. Unfortunately, it's not as great in my experience for making sauerkraut, which is what I originally bought it for. It just doesn't seem designed as well for that specific task. It's still a good crock—don't get me wrong. I intend to give it to my future in-laws when I return to their country to marry my fiancee, as they are a rural family and can probably put it to better use than I can. I don't want this review to give anyone the wrong impression. I do like it and will happily buy other products from the company. It's simply that I was unable to make it work for what I intended. Your experience may vary.

I saw several reviews complaining that the product arrived broken before I purchased, and I am glad I took the risk. In terms of packaging, I would venture to guess that my crock would have survived a fall from space (shout out to Mike, who packed my crock!). Barring a catastrophic interaction with a locomotive, or perhaps a large nuclear explosion, I can't see how my crock could have possibly been broken in shipping with the way it was packaged. The bottom line is that it seems that the seller has heard the complaints and fixed the issue. The crock itself is exactly as shown in the product images. It is beautiful, sturdy, and expertly glazed with just enough imperfection to remind you that real people worked to make the product. I am breaking it in with a batch of sauerkraut at the moment, and so far, the crock is holding steady. No structural fatigue or leaks in sight. The cabbage, salt, and juices are all well contained, which is exactly what I was hoping for. While I don't think I will buy another, because this one will almost certainly last for the rest of my life, I would recommend this crock to anyone looking to make some fermented foods.

arrived in great shape, very well packed, just what I expected. Don't both with the "create our own ferments" pamphlet included. This requires giving your email, links you to a overly religious food fad site. The "recipes" appear to be salt free "fermentation" recipes that are not safe

Love this product but was super disappointed when it arrived without the weights or lid!!! Have tried to contact the seller multiple times but still haven’t been able to get these parts. Sent pictures, emails, etc. Not sure if communication is amazon or the sellers fault. Really disappointed to buy such an expensive product and now use it as a plant stand...

This item arrived sooner than expected and was packaged VERY well with a lot of bubble wrap. It appears to be well made and high quality! I am excited to use it!
