Excellent, Comfortable, Effective, & Inexpensive
The overall quality of these Leightning L3 Earmuffs are EXCELLENT. They are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. They are extremely effective at suppressing loud noise. . . and they are startlingly inexpensive. I've had mine for about a month now, and I use them weekly for shooting firearms. LOUD firearms. . . with several other shooters firing very close to me. Typically I ALWAYS wear BOTH earplugs AND earmuffs when I go shooting. With these, I find that there is little actual difference if I skip wearing earplugs with them. Frankly, I am surprised that there are ANY people on here who gave bad reviews, but I guess there will always be certain people who will find something to complain about. . . even if you gave it to them for free. Listen, I suppose it's possible that there could be better earmuffs out there. . . especially if you have loads of money to burn, and cost is no object. But seriously, for $20, I really think that these are pretty hard to beat. Heck, at ANY price, I think these are pretty hard to beat. ** NOTE ** I've read some other buyers complaints that these muffs are not adjustable, and that they were too small to fit their heads and reach their ears. I think that's probably because they couldn't figure out how to adjust them. It took me a few minutes to figure it out myself: The way you adjust them is to pull the metal headband wire out of the black plastic mounting swivels which are mounted on the plastic ear-cups. When the muffs are shipped, they are fully collapsed down to their smallest size, with the metal headband wire pieces pushed all the way down into the black plastic swivels. It's actually a FAR better design than my old earmuffs which adjusted by telescoping the top of the headband instead. Bottom line? Buy 'em & don't look back. I've used alot of earmuffs over the years, and these are the best ones I've had yet.

Great for students! (also good for air travel)
I'm a pre-med college student and I hate studying with distracting noises around (TV, chitchat, music, etc.), but I can't always get away from the noise so I got these and they are WONDERFUL. I also use them over my earbuds while flying and I don't hear anything but my music or movie. Anything that blocks out the sound of those poor crying babies on an airplane is worth its weight in gold! **NOISE REDUCTION: These do a VERY good job at reducing noise but they do not eliminate 100% of the sounds around me, so I use them on top of Hearos Ear Plugs Xtreme Protection, 14-Pair Foam (Pack of 3) or on top of earbuds and it eliminates all but the loudest sounds. I could faintly hear someone yelling in the same room as me, but it would be almost inaudible in the next room. I can easily sit in the living room and study while my husband watches the television. **COMFORT: These are a tiny bit snug, but I think that is necessary to block out the sound and they are not so snug that they are uncomfortable. I honestly think that I have a somewhat large head size (hat size approximately 7 3/8 if that helps), so the snugness might be more of a "me" problem. They never catch in my hair and I can wear my normal stud earrings without any issues, although larger hoop earrings would probably be uncomfortable. I don't have any issues wearing these over foam earplugs, and they easily go over earbuds so I can listen to music. **DESIGN: I love that these fold up so compactly. When folded, I can keep my ear plugs or headphones inside the ear cups and they stay so tight that I know it won't open up and let anything fall out. I love how low-profile these are compared to some other models, I don't feel silly wearing them on a plane or at the library (unlike some of the bulky, bright colored ear muffs), in fact, they could almost pass for larger size headphones that are currently so popular. These are pretty straightforward to adjust if you take a minute to look and they stay at that adjustment well. The ear cups come off for cleaning, which is nice. **VALUE: You can't beat these. I almost put down over $200 on Bose noise cancelling headphones and I am so glad I tried these first. I highly recommend these.

Hearing pro for the office and outdoors
I picked these up for some quiet in a crowded office with talkative coworkers. Great for blocking out noise! I can still hear muffled voices if I focus on them, but it's much easier to ignore them. They're comfortable to wear, even with blue light, computer glasses. I'll have to see how long I can wear them comfortably, as they are snug. If I had to complain about something, they're rather stiff and tough to adjust. Then, if you fold them up, you have to adjust them to fit your head when you open them again. Amazon suggests that I also mention the fantastic battery life! They last forever on no charge with no batteries, almost like they were passive earmuffs. And they are black, just like the product pictures.

Good Fit, Work Well With Plugs
I bought these for my girlfriend to take to the shooting range becuase she is not a fan of the noise. She wore them along with a pair of in ear buds for added protection. She said they were OK but it's tough to go on that because she didn't like the sound initially anyways. I can say that I put them on without additionally ear plugs while a 9mm and .40cal were being fired and I have to be honest, I wouldn't wear only these to the range. It was a new indoor area so I wasn't really used to the acoustics in there a whole lot compared to my usual range so that may have played a part. Don't get me wrong, they definitely functioned in dampening the sound. They would absolutely work if you had nothing else, but from my brief encounter they wouldn't be the first ear protection I own that I would reach for. That being said, I am sure they work fine with additional ear plugs in. I must say they are very comfortable, sleek profile and everything. They fold up into a very nice neat package which is great. I am a bit nervous about breaking the small metal wire though when I adjust them, but it hasn't happened yet so whatever. All in all they are good so far and I won't be sending them back. Get them if you are considering it.

Great compact earmuffs
I have been using this ear muff for several months now and they are great. The only concern I had at the time was with the low NRR rating, but since I have a way around it for my purposes, it wasn't a deal breaker. And besides, the price was so affordable that I wouldn't be out much money if it didn't work out. For my purposes, I use this ear muff whenever I go out to the range (indoor and outdoor). To get around the low NRR I use double hearing protection which means I use a disposable ear plug with the ear muff over it. I can still hear the range master since they use a PA system all the while I'm avoiding serious hearing damage (from both the PA system and the gun sounds). But the main reason why I bought this style ear muff (other than it was from Howard Leight) was that at the time my older one was just too bulky. It was great at blocking noise, but it made it such that I couldn't get a low cheek weld on my rifle's butt stock. This meant having to raise the sights needlessly. As a rule of thumb, you want your scope as low and close to the barrel as possible. Since this ear muff is about half the thickness of my older one, it allowed me get a low cheek weld and also allowed me to put the scope much closer to the barrel. In addition this ear muff is really light weight, looks good, and not as tight as I expected it to be. You do want to be a little careful when extending/retracting the ear muffs from the head band since the steel frame used to connect the muffs to the headband is thin. I always feel like I might inadvertently bend or break it. Also, I bought a pair of Radians Clay Pro Shooting Glasses which has a really thin wireframe. This helps in eliminating any tightness around the ears for those of you who find wearing this ear muff with your existing shooting glass uncomfortable. Now there's one cautionary note. If you are going to be in close proximity to large caliber gunfire (especially indoors) or around sound that is about or over 160 decibels, this ear muff may not be sufficient for you unless you use ear plugs along with this. Other than that, this is a great buy.

I have a big head
It's embarrassing but yes, I have a big head. Most ear muffs did not fit well or squeezed too tight, these fit me beautifully and completely covered my ears without pain. The sound proofing is excellent and higher than most you can purchase which is helpful as I am sensitive to sounds. These are not the active headset with batteries and volume control -- I found I do not need that anyways as I can hear my range instructor just fine and. now I don't have to fiddle with my headset trying to find the volume. I recommend these. Well made. Excellent fit. Excellent sound proofing.

Comfortable & Effective
I compared several ear protectors and this was the best one: Best: Leightning L3 R-03318: Howard Leight R-03318 Leightning L3 Shooter's Premium Earmuff NRR rating 30 Attenuation at various frequencies: 34 at 125, 36 at 500, 38 at 1000, 44 at 4000, 45 at 8000 Very comfortable, lightweight, fully adjustable without fear of breaking it, padded headband. Muffles office chatter, typing, and lighting or computer humming very well. Does something, but not enough, to block loud mechanical hums and banging. Bottom line: This is my new favorite. It's so comfortable! Acceptable: AO Safety 90559 AO Safety 90559 Folding Earmuff NRR rating 21 Attenuation at various frequencies: Don't know Comfortable, lightweight. Plastic unpadded headband adjusts in preset increments, and you have to be gentle when you put it on to avoid breaking it; the plastic broke after a couple years. Reduces the volume of voices but doesn't block them, muffles lighting or computer humming, actually amplifies the sound of typing. Bottom line: Despite its lower NRR rating, I used this one for years and liked it a lot. Uncomfortable: Peltor Optime 105 H10A Peltor H10A Optime 105 Over-the-Head Earmuff NRR rating 30 Attenuation at various frequencies: 21 at 125, 37 at 500, 41 at 1000, 43 at 4000, 41 at 8000 Uncomfortably tight fit, heavier than the others, padded adjustable headband. Muffles office chatter, typing, and lighting or computer humming well. Does something, but not enough, to block loud mechanical hums and banging. (Same effectiveness as the Leightning) Bottom line: This was effective but so uncomfortable squeezing my head I didn't want to wear it. And I have a small-ish head. Unwearable: Tasco Golden Eagle 2950 Tasco 210-02950 29db Golden Eagle Blk 1pos Ovr-The-Head Earmuff (sold by another vendor as "built to military specifications", no brand name given, at twice the price) NRR rating 29 Attenuation at various frequencies: 21 at 125, 36 at 500, 43 at 1000, 37 at 4000, 36 at 8000 Very uncomfortable. The adjustable headband looks padded, but in reality there's a piece of unpadded plastic that digs straight into the sides of your head. Did not block sound for me at all, because the earpieces were too big for my head, leaving a gap. Maybe this would fit better on a man with a big head. Bottom line: Hated it.

Decent but there are more better and cheap options
Alright, so I had this ear pro and it is really good in terms of comfort. You also get somewhat decent hearing protection when firing guns and it is is slim enough to allow you to mount your guns easily. The foam is recessed inside the ear pro for more room which is why you can wear it for long hours. The cons is that you can get a cheaper pair of walker ear protection muffs which is slimmer due to tapering downwards, has more substantially mlre foam than the howard leight LF2, and will reduce sound much more effectively. These are decent headphones in that if you double up, it will be more comfortable than walkers. However the walkers will be much more quiet.

Excellent, sleek, effective
A cost-effective pair of earphones that you won't be embarrassed to wear. When you're 64 your grandchildren will have these to thank that they don't need to scream at you. Highly recommended.

good product, good price
This product arrived on time as expected. I use it for ear protection at the firing range and it does an excellent job. it is very comfortable over the ears and does not interfere with eyeglasses. The noise suppression is excellent yet conversations are easily understood. Good price and good bang for the buck. Highly recommended.

Great protection and very comfortable
I am a gardener and use ear muffs all day. I've tried a few different brands and I always come back to these ones. They fold up so they're less likely to break, they are excellent at blocking machinery noise and they're comfortable. They last a long time, my last pair were over 3 years old, daily use and I only replaced them because I lost them.
