The Tool of all Tools
This tool saved me from tearing down the wall!

This will save a future headache
I suspect the majority of people that are buying a tool like this are buying it for a future problem, not an active problem. If I needed to solve an active problem, I would have paid way more at a local big box store. I picked up this tool for that potential future problem. So my review will not be able to speak for the broken faucet removal ability. This part shipped pretty quick. I really liked that it came in a plastic tool box and an Allen wrench specific to the tool. Of course there was the random roll of doping tape. I observed that the removal tool had a thick coating of what looked like automotive paint on it. I had to put the parts in a vise to break the screws loose to get the two major components to come apart. The threads of the screws were also covered with that same automotive paint. So I ended up putting some oil on the screws and running them in and out to work the excess paint off. Once I had the removal tool broken in, I covered it with a thin layer of oil. Looking this over, I am pretty confident this will get me out of a jam when I really need something like this. Its design is so simple, its perfect. Once tightened up, this should seriously grip the inner wall of a faucet or fitting. The extractor did not have any tooling marks from being in my vise, so I do feel like it is made of some pretty hard steel. At the time of writing this review, This tool is being marketed for less than $10. For a tool that I may need a few times in my life, its an amazing value. I also think this is a good enough tool that it could be used by a professional plumber and handle everyday use.

It works in old rusted out pipes
As a property manager, I deal with my fair share of rusted-out plumbing, especially under old bathroom and kitchen sinks where shutoff lines and faucet connections have basically fused themselves together over time. I picked up this Extractor Tool for a recent job where a faucet supply line had completely rusted in place under the sink, and I was expecting it to turn into one of those frustrating โthis should take 20 minutes but now itโs been an hourโ repairs. To my surprise, this tool actually did exactly what I needed it to do. I was working in a cramped vanity cabinet with very little room to maneuver, and once I got it positioned, it bit into the broken piece well enough to back it out without damaging the surrounding fitting. That alone saved me a lot of aggravation and probably saved the homeowner from a much more expensive repair. My only complaint is that the paint/coating on the tool seemed to make one of the included screws a little slippery during setup. It made it harder than it should have been to really tighten it down, and I had to fuss with it more than I wanted before I felt like it was secure. Once I got past that, though, it performed as intended. Overall, if you work in maintenance, property management, or older homes where rusted plumbing is a regular battle, this is a handy tool to keep around. Not perfect, but when youโre staring at a rusted broken pipe in a tight space, it can absolutely save the day.

Piece of junk
Piece of junk. I have a standard 1/2 threaded pipe that broke off. The extractor tool is 1/4 and 1 inch (not as advertised)

Hefty little tool that pays for itself in one pipe (extraction, that is)
This just works! My husband and I recently purchased an older home that is in need of some updating. The plumbing is one of those things. We had encountered some pipes that were unmovable due to either age, rust or hard water buildup. This little pipe extractor isn't big, but it does the tough work. It is much heavier than I thought it would be. That plays into the reality of how solid and durable it is. It comes with a hefty little allen wrench that turns with ease. We inserted the expandable end into the pipe and turn the allen wrench until the pipe extractor is pressing real hard on the inside of the pipe. With that my husband was able to get the old, frozen pipes out. After numerous pipes that we couldn't get out any other way, this pipe extractor is easy to use, and is a tremendous value for the money given that we didn't have to pay for a plumber to get the pipes out. I'm not going to say that it was easy to get these pipes out, but it was doable.

The tool works, but why the PTFE tape???
I tested this on a piece of 3/4" copper pipe. It griped well. You loosen the bottom screw and tighten the top screw to expand tool and then use the hex key or a socket to turn it. It seems to be made out of cast iron/steel. Only time will tell if it holds up. To the manufactures: This is a tool to grab the inside of a broken pipe and unscrew it out. It doesn't screw into anything. There is no reason to pack PTFE thread tape with it. The manufacture of PTFE tape is permanently contaminating our water supplies. The chemicals used in its manufacture never break down. They are the so-called "forever chemicals" that contaminate our drinking water supplies. Every product even remotely related to plumbing includes a roll of PTFE tape. 99.9% of these rolls are never used and when they are used only 1% of the roll is used. People who need PTFE tape know they need it and have it already. This product is a just a tool, it has no threads that need sealing tape so why include PTFE tape. Save the $0.02 and let people buy it when they need it. You are contaminating our water for no reason.
