desertcart.com: Frank Zappa: Complete Recordings Illustrated (Essential Discographies Book 67) eBook : Robinson, Trevor, Sparke, Andrew: Kindle Store Review: For die hard Frank Zappa fans, this book may as well be omitted. Why? Well every serious Frank Zappa fan would probably be able to quote the albums in this book and in order. This one is a serious buyer beware!!!! What I was expecting was a book that might have been a series of unreleased photos of the band etc during the 67 period that complimented the albums at the time(Freak Out and Absolutely Free with a bit of Lumpy Gravy on top.) What I got was simply an album catalogue that is book 67 of a series called Essential Discographies. The information is pretty thin and nothing every fan doesn't already know and to make matters worse, it's missing piles of information that could have made this book a winner. Allow me to explain. For even the first 10 Frank Zappa albums, there are MANY releases. So to start making this book worthwhile for collectors (as opposed to the newbie or casually interested fan) what it could have done was to list every country pressing and release for each album. Hot Rats for example has many releases and a fellow fan has 58 different releases of the album Chunga's Revenge for example. WHAT? you say. Yes, this fellow fan collects each of the 8-Track releases, the cassette tape releases, the LP releases, the CD releases etc from each country of manufacture. In fact there are currently 133 releases of Frank Zappas Chunga's Revenge album. Each of the covers have different sizings, fonts and even pictures depending on the country of release, each of the LP versions varies in quality dependent upon the number of copies produced from the master pressing, re-releases, re-issues etc, well don't expect to get any of that information from this book. The photos in this book look like copy and pastes of the Zappa website at best and you don't even get any of the major cover differences during re-releases. In fact the information was so lazy, I mean it mentions Ryko disc releases but omits all the double albums Ryko put out(for example We're only in it for the money with lumpy gravy(not to be confused with the Lumpy Money project which is a completely different release that introduces many unreleased tracks.) and it had a different cover as well.) On one hand I was annoyed I'd been duped but hoped for the best as I then thought it could be a good collectors guide. Alas it's a generic vanilla catalogue at best and to be honest the free catalogues you used to get with each CD album release are just as good as this and they were free. Hell if this is the best the publishers can do, I might have to do a real collector/photo illustrated guide. (I mean at least put all the different covers and the complete artwork in there(this would be appreciated by those who may only own or seek to own the hi-definition download albums for example.) I gave it one star for having a couple of unauthorised albums I might check out(I probably already have them but with a different cover and I wouldn't know as track listings get omitted once away from the official albums), but otherwise this book was completely useless and a complete money spinner from Frank Zappa's great name. It's even missed out on the early Frank Zappa recordings like the Cucamonga album where Frank played with the Black Outs and the soundtracks like The Worlds Greatest Sinner. (Prior to the release of Freak Out.) Not even mentions of Captain Beefheart versus the Grunt People and hey what about all the collaboration Frank Zappa albums, will no one do a REAL catalogue for us hard core fans??? If your going to do this, do it properly. I mean you have to at least have the Bizarre records albums as Frank plays on most of them. SIGH!!!!! Save your money and grab one of the excellent books featuring interviews with the band members and people who actually worked with Frank Zappa, you'll get way more exciting information and something worth your time. This will hopefully go digital only never to be reprinted again because honestly it's a waste of trees. Review: mucho contenido del topico
