#SAD!: Doonesbury in the Time of Trump

This collection delivers what we all know and dislike about this former potus.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was really beginning to miss the brilliance of Garry Trudeau and his "Doonesbury" comic strip, in the Age of Trump. His strip just disappeared and I couldn't find it til I saw the website a couple of months ago. Evidently, he's only publishing six-panal cartoons on Sundays. Well, now we have "#SAD! Doonesbury in the Time of Trump", which is a compilation of the strips from the past couple of years.The book actually begins during the 2016 elections. I get the feeling that Trudeau, much like many of the rest of us, didn't really think Donald Trump would actually win. And become president. And throw us into disorder and despair. But he did win and Trudeau's wit does take some of the sting off the bitterness many of us have been feeling.Donald Trump is not the subject of all the comic strips. Doonesbury and his family of characters make up most of the strips' casts. But most refer to things going on from 2016 to 2018. Garry Trudeau, as always, is witty but mostly punctures with a gentle edge. And that's what we need most.

Does any other political cartoonist come close?

45 lovers won't find this a laugh fest because it is ACCURATE. Ironically, people with a sense of humor will love the satire! This newspaper strip turned into a hilarious book if you are politically knowledgeable.There are many references to 'minor' players who make this a mix of great thoughts.

Trump parodies are top notch. This book will be a collector's item someday. Once he's worn an orange jumpsuit for a while.

Was Doonesbury a prophet or just a great cartoon artist?

Any thing I missed should be addressed in the next chapter. I'm just writing so I can get all 14 words in,so this will be printedy one with a brain. 😅

If you loved Doonesbury growing up and you still lov qe it, this book is hysterical. Gary Trudeau has captured our "trump years" as no one else can. For a break from all the bad stuff going on right now; covid-19, protests over civil rights and enduring the trump administration, #SAD offers mental relief. Buy this book.

Gary has been inspirational for decades, this beautiful nonsense is just what we need in this complicated era. Sadly, scope for much more

Doonesbury is always spot-on when it comes to political humour. He's been mocking Trump for as long as Trump has been in the public eye. The best part of it, is that he doesn't have to exaggerate or make stuff up. Trump does it all to himself, and Trudeau only has to capture it and bring it to our attention. What a poser! :D

There is not much more to say about Trudeau. Unfortunately SAD is funny!The kindle edition is b/w, so I got to read it on my phone.
