Works on smooth surfaces
I've used these brushes for 3 projects: staining a wooden file cabinet, staining a wooden clock frame, and painting a wooden step-stool. The brushes were perfect for staining, but painting with them wasn't great because they disintegrated after tons and tons of dips. (Staining meant less dips, so that's why they held up well.) They also disintegrated on rough surfaces. Whatever I didn't feel like sanding ended up shredding the brushes, so I wish I'd sanded every side, every nook and cranny of everything made of wood. I used one brush per coat when painting or staining bigger projects, but I was able to reuse some brushes a couple times for small staining needs. I needed to buy a second bag to finish my painting project, so I used less than 25 brushes to stain a clock frame and a medium-sized cabinet. But even if you're just doing a small project, I'd recommend getting 50 as opposed to 25 since it's such a small price difference. I've used more than I thought I would need on each project, and having extra gloves, brushes, paints and stains handy means you're ready to work when inspiration strikes, so in this case I think it's good to have more than you think you need.
