Great Tasting Porridge
I have been buying a good quality steel cut oats for my porridge and intensely disliked it. I need a lot of fibre in my diet and that is why I ate it. Some days I just couldn’t face it again. For some reason I decided to try Flahavan's oats and joy of joys I actually like it. I make it with water and add real cinnamon, blueberries and a banana. It also does my gut health good. Plus the bonus is it only takes three minutes to cook.

Nice nutty taste
Very different from Scottish oats which make you nice porridge in the microwave in under 5 minutes, this type is smaller and harder and takes a minimum of 30 minutes cooking on the hob. Even when cooked it is a much firmer texture. It makes a nice change from regular porridge so if you are in a rush in the morning make it the night before and just heat it up the next morning.

Pinhead oats
These pinheaded oats are really nice l soak them over night to soften then cook them in the morning.

Don't buy expensive steel cut oats - these are the same!
I use these in muesli/porridge to give crunch and goodness. Always read that steel cut oats were the best for you, bit too expensive but finally discovered that "pinhead" oats are the same thing but cheaper! Obviously high quality product, processed well. Have not tried a different brand as these are so tasty with great texture. Also encouraging "local" business. At least give them a try - I have even ground them to a powder, but then obviously lose their wonderful texture, but it works. Read the site for details on organic quality, etc.

Poor Packaging
The product is great but the packet was badly damaged. The contents had leaked into the larger packet into other products and about a third were lost.

Does not produce a soft smooth porridge
Unfortunately this Pinhead oatmeal does not produce a soft smooth porridge. The milled oats are too large and do not soften when cooking with the result you have a 'gritty' porridge.

This brand of pin oats is required if making a Cincinnati favorite, goetta, at home since I have been unable to find the old brands that used to be available. Do not try the other brands online.
