Can it take a US plug and be used in China?

Yes, no problem taking a US plug. In China I found that a lot of hotels have multi capable sockets.

Does this work in Hong Kong?

No it’s not for Hong Kong, actually there you can use a standard uk 3pin plug.

Multiple use cheap but work Australian plug adapter

I used these recently and they work. The design allows you to plug in 2 pin shaver and oral B toothbrush directly into the adaptor. As you expect U.K. 3 pin plug pushes straight into the Australian adaptor. Cheap to buy and take up little space in my luggage.
