Father Brown Christmas Special: The Star of Jacob

The actual performance in this episode does not warrant one star but the fact that it is included in the Series 5 boxed set is the reason for my write down. It is not made clear that this is not a stand alone episode and purchasers of aforementioned series five have already bought the episode. £5.54 wasted for nothing. We thought lets watch the Christmas Special as it is Christmas only to realise we had already seen the episode the minute it started playing. Buyers be very beware and give this a miss if you are buying or already have all the boxed sets and I would imagine this applies to 99.9% of Father Brown buyers. This is a money making con by the producers of these DVDs and a completely pointless issue.

It’s a good episode but it,s also the first episode of the fifth series. I discover this after watching it. The date that the dvd is available since January 2018 suggests that it is a new epsiode but it isn‘t.

Brilliant drama but please be aware this isn't a new episode it is available as the first episode on the fifth series dvd.

Excellent one-off of this wonderful series. All the stories are good and the tv writing does justice to the character. We have watched all the series and will start from the beginning again before long.

As all Father Brown followers will know, the plot of this Christmas story - like all the others - was absolutely ludicrous. That is part of the charm of it. It was hilarious. My only complaint is that it was standard length, rather than an extended episode as suggested by the title.

I brought this as we cannot recall ever seeing this programme when it went out on the TV and so we have put it aside for this coming Christmas - we have all the other box sets so far - as they are al entertaining and this will be no exception and if nothing else shows we too have faith, like Father Brown, in some things not seen at first :)
