The Official Book of Hanjie: 100 Puzzles -- Follow the Number Clues to Find a Picture

I found this hanjie puzzle book very enjoyable. The puzzles became harder the further into the book. Great buy. Only problem was all grids were square so an awful lot of blank grid places. Grids even if rectangular shape fitted to size would be better.

Great value and really challenging

I was disappointed by this product because there were no colour pictures to do and also because there were many blank rows and columns in each picture. The easy pictures were not always easy as you could not complete the picture from the clues given in many cases. Overall a very poor shfow!!

Loved it

Not the best quality book really. The numbers along the sides of each grid are small and on a grey background so quite difficult to see. As the puzzles get harder, the numbers get smaller and even more difficult to see. It needs a magnifying glass to see them properly. Not clever at all. I wish I hadn't bought it. It's an expensive mistake.

My husband wanted this book and he has said that he thoroughly enjoyed doing the puzzles and gives it 5 stars. Is there any way you could let me know when a new Hanjie book is in please. Thank you Pat Burnham

I found these puzzles very basic and boring

Good range of puzzles and different levels of difficulty

Ce livre a l'avantage d'avoir des grandes pages, ce qui n'est pas toujours le cas pour les jeux de hanji, les cases sont grandes ainsi que les chiffres. Par contre les images elles mêmes sont plutôt simples. Il y a aussi beaucoup trop de cases blanches. Sinon, je le conseille quand même.

These puzzles are solved by filling in a grid following number clues at the edge of the grid. If the numbers at the edge of the grid are 2, 4 and 9, then in that row/column, you will fill in 2, 4 and 9 consecutive blocks. At the completion, your completed grid will show a picture with your colored in blocks. If you're looking for a "Hanjie" puzzle book, this isn't a great choice. This book fails in two ways. First, and most importantly, a true Hanjie / O'Ekaki / Nonogram puzzle must have ONE and ONLY 1 solution. In some of the puzzles, you have a series of blocks that can be completed two ways - both "proper" solutions to the puzzles (Ex: in a 4 block square, you could either fill A and D *or* B and C). ..1..1 1 A B 1 C D Second, this book is not designed for someone learning how to do this type of puzzles. As an example, the 5th puzzle in the book (marked as Easy) in most other books would fall in the Difficult section. Rather than completing the puzzle following the numbers, you are required to make assumptions ("If I assume this block is filled in..."), complete a portion of the puzzle until it DOESN'T work, then erase and mark that assumption wrong. This is not acceptable for puzzles marked as Easy. While this may work for experts at these puzzles, and is expected in the harder puzzles, when you combine it with the improper creation of the puzzle(see the first issue), the puzzles become much more trouble than they are worth. If you're still interested in finding a good book, try searching Amazon and the internet for "O'Ekaki" and "Nonograms". The author Tetsuya Nishio makes a couple great books.

Waste of money. Half the puzzles are so easy you fall asleep filling in the black squares and the "hard" ones are sometimes impossible to solve as there's no starting square anywhere!

I would have given it 5 stars had the paper been of a higher quality.
