V Brake perfection and dang if they're not sexy as brakes get for BMX or Old Man 26" MTBs ... with a few restomods to feel younger than my 68 years. Folks say I don't look a day over 67. It's gotta be the brakes!

Just built a 98 GT Speed Series E XXL and when I went to assemble it I realized I’d forgotten brakes. Needed 108mm and they barely fit but do work beautifully and look excellent. Installation was as expected. Solid brakes. EDIT: I found period correct Shimano DX brakes for the Speed Series, so I took these off. These brakes were on a collector bike; never ridden. When I went to put them on my Pro Series Cruiser (rider), all was going fine until I began adjusting the centering screw on the right brake arm. When I backed it out I heard a pop. From that point forward, that brake arm completely lost its return-spring tension. I initially questioned whether I had done something incorrectly, so I compared the Box arm directly with the ProMax V-brake I had just removed. With each brake installed on the same brake boss, with the spring-indexing stud in the center hole and no cable attached, the difference is obvious: the ProMax arm has normal spring resistance and returns as expected. The Box arm simply moves back and forth freely with no spring resistance whatsoever. This is especially disappointing because these brakes have essentially no mileage on them. They have not been worn out, abused, crashed, or exposed to years of normal riding. A premium V-brake should not suffer a spring-mechanism failure simply from ordinary installation and centering adjustment. I contacted Box Components support regarding the failure and, as of three days later, have received no response. I bought these because they looked great and were supposed to be a premium upgrade. Ironically, the inexpensive ProMax brakes I removed are functioning perfectly, while the Box One brake is now unusable. Based on this experience, I can no longer recommend them.

Long term review - Purchased in Aug 25 / installed and used till now. Very pretty and weighty solid feel but stopping power lacking - changed the pads to Swiss Stop pads and then Kool stop stopping still average. Eventually the spring / recoil tension locating pin snapped on one set and rendering the brake useless. Possibly it can be replaced but I will change the brakes to Dia-compe cantilever instead.

Wish they came in a pack of two…but the quality on these is unparallel. 5 stars for build, quality, and looks

If you ride a big ripper make sure you get the 108mm not 85mm. They will ne to short.

It looks like they are having manufacturing problems. Out of the three purchased only one was barely usable. The rotating holder of the return spring did not rotate freely, metal rubbed on metal making that unusable. No amount of lubrication helped. The arms are nice and stiff, but until they fix the issue this product is unusable.

These are really elite quality. I brought them to a bike tech for install, and he said they are a very high end brake for the quality. As I ride, the stopping power is more apparent and smoother than on my cheap stock brakes.

I got these for my sons BMX bike. He rides in the 8-10 range so the 85mm brakes were a good fit for his ride. Pros: 1. Easy to swap in 2. Top of the line fabrication 3. Quick and consistent brake power 4. Look beautiful Cons: None these are the brakes you want if you are racing Over all, these are amazing, huge upgrade over what came with his ride.

I love box bikes and bike parts: they're well-made, durable, beautiful, and usually easy to dial in. These brakes (for my 24" GT BMX) are not the lightest-weight, but they are fantastically sturdy and grip incredibly well, The sealed bearing pivots feel fantastically smooth and they retract instantly. The variable durometer pads bite without ever feeling soggy, and the way they're attached is extremely solid with no pivoting once tightened. All in all, a fantastic brake set, a huge improvement on the DiaCompes I used to depend on.

Superb brakes that can stop on a dime and endure anything you put them through.
