Ovation CE44P-SM Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Spalted Maple

Comes set up to play not one adjustment needed, tone excellent, electronics excellent , neck adjustment excellent . The instruments sustain is really unbelievable. Having another Ovation from 1972 and have played the frets off of it I was excited to gain another hoping to have the same experience., No disappointment here , instrument is phenomenal.

Very pleased with the quality and looks. It is an acoustic electric, so not as loud "un-amped" as my other acoustics. I am very pleased with this purchase as a back-up! The spalted maple is beautiful. EDIT (2024-05-27: Having had this guitar for about 6 months, I finally unpacked my amps from moving across country and am disappointed at how short-lived batteries are in this awesome guitar. I believe I am forced to use it as acoustic only, though the tone is beautiful for as long as the batteries do last. Sigh... I was so hoping for better (as a result, I did down-grade my prior 5-star review).

They bury in the specs the fact that this is actually a 3/4 sized guitar, basically made smaller for a child or beginner. This is NOT a full-sized guitar. The paperwork that comes with the guitar says "thank you for buying an Adamas or Applause guitar" Which were the top the line and least expensive models relatively. I understand that Fender bought Ovation and started making the guitars in Korea and China. This is a typical tactic in Asia. Selling overvalued products to Americans who don't know better. They figure we won't return them because of the trouble getting it back to the seller. Thank God I bought this through Amazon. Be advised!

The guitar is beautiful! Gorgeous details and great tone— until you plug it in. Straight out of the box, the A string was gnarly distorted. Really terrible. I took it to my local guitar guy who told me the pickup was garbage. I expected solid electronics from a guitar of this price. Now I’m shopping for a luthier to replace the pickup entirely. Great acoustic, betrayal of an electric.

This was the type of guitar I had always wanted since I started playing years ago. Was going through somewhat of transitional stage in my playing—trying to evolve— and this guitar was exactly what I needed to help me get there. Very satisfied. Thank you. P.s. I name all my guitars, and this beauty is now known as “The All Mother”.

Awesome looking guitar but the action is set unbelievably high. Sounds nice.

The guitar was beautiful but came damaged with a crack in the side of the neck. I was so disappointed when my boyfriend opened his Christmas gift to see it was damaged.

Superbe guitare vraiment magnifique. Au niveau du son, c'est puissant, assez métallique. La première est arrivée avec la table abîmée, retournée au vendeur qui a aussitôt envoyé une guitare de remplacement en un seul morceau cette fois. Merci au vendeur très réactif.

SE NON VOLETE SPENDERE ALTRI SOLDI per rendere questa chitarra uno strumento professionale pronto all'uso. La chitarra è molto bella esteticamente, il piano armonico di acero "spalted" è accoppiato a uno di abete, e il suono, la timbrica e gli armonici, sono molto buoni sia acustici che amplificati. I problemi riguardano il manico, che ha avuto bisogno di una rettifica ( eseguita alla perfezione da un liutaio certificato ) e dell'acquisto di meccaniche NUOVE, in quanto quelle originali OVATION non tenevano l'accordatura ( e non sto parlando di strumming pesante ma di finger picking abbastanza morbido ). Le nuove GOTOH tengono l'accordatura per un intero concerto, e essendo identiche alle originali è stato possibile sostituirle semplicemente svitando le vecchie e avvitando le nuove. Tengo a precisare che l'acquisto è stato fatto per onorare un contratto per diverse serate in jazz-clubs, cosa che rendeva necessario lo strumento ( quindi non restituibile per avviare la procedura di reso o di sostituzione ). Il venditore di Amazon Marketplace ( a anche il distributore europeo ), informati del problema, si sono rifiutati di "condividere" il problema, appellandosi rigidamente alle procedure di garanzia o di reso. Ho fornito le foto che documentano problema e soluzione, e mi sono offerto di spedire, al venditore o al distributore, le meccaniche Ovation fallate, ma non ho ricevuto ulteriore risposta.
