Addressing the Review Controversy + My Own Personal Hair Journey
I'm pretty sure this is my first amazon review, and I've held off on writing it for forever, mostly because of the "biased reviews" controversy but also because I'm lazy and couldn't be bothered to take the time before. Yes, the bottles you buy come with free product offers. I've even gotten them in the mail somehow. There's nothing that actually states you have to leave a 'positive' review but that's neither here nor there. Are there people who would write reviews just to get free products regardless of whether they actually liked it? Probably, if they're cheap and just don't care about what they use. In the next couple paragraphs I go on [and on] about my personal hair care journey, but if you just want to skip to where I start talking about Maple Holistics I made a footnote in caps down below. I started dyeing my hair at 13 and kept it continuously dyed until I was... 22-ish? Mostly in the brown/red spectrum. When I was younger I didn't really give much thought to hair care and cosmetics and for years just used generic-y shampoos and conditioners. (I stuck with Garnier for color treated hair for years.) (If you don't wanna read in-depth about my skin problems you can skip this part.) ;) As an important side-note, I've had eczema all my life. I'm not talking about "dry skin" that people like to umbrella label as eczema. I'm talking, red, uncontrollably itchy rashes that do not just 'go away.' Over the course of my life it's affected me more in different areas. As a kid, it mainly manifested on my arms. In high school I would get it on my face and in college, dyshidrotic eczema on my hands. Scientists aren't exactly sure what the underlying causes of eczema are, but are sometimes known to have allergic triggers. I've taken a patch test and besides seasonal environmental causes I found I was allergic to formaldehyde, which if you aren't familiar, can be found in almost... anything. Why am I mentioning this? because 6-7 years ago I started getting seborrhoeic dermatitis on my scalp. It didn't cause hair loss, and it's not something that's really visible, but it is horrible. I would scratch my scalp til it bled, and skin pick the thick patches of scales off. (For those asking about prescription creams and whatnot, I had a bad experience with steroidal creams when I was younger so I try not to use them now if I can.) tldr; So now that I have eczema on my scalp I started researching non-clinical solutions. I ended up finding Lush's Squeaky Green. (I think this was right around the time Lush got big in the states.) It was one of their solid soap bars, and it really really helped. I'm pretty sure it still had sulfates if I'm not mistaken, but for those interested the main ingredients were: rosemary, nettle, tea tree powder, peppermint, rose absolute, chamomile blue oil, and vanilla absolute. I used that shampoo for about two years before it was discontinued (I'm still not over it.) I wrote down the ingredients while its page was still up on their website so I could keep an eye out later. I've also used Lush's Big shampoo, which I liked but did nothing for my scalp issues- (Salt on open wounds is no bueno.) as well as Seanik, Godiva, and Soak and Float, no change. After some more research I stumbled upon the whole 'no sulfates' revolution. I ended up with DermOrganics shampoo and conditioner, which you can still find on amazon (I think the price went up though.) At the time I was paying $25 for their 33oz bottles. I used DermOrganics for about 3.5 years, from 2013-2016. From what I remember, it improved the condition of my hair and 'helped' my eczema, but it wasn't as good as the Lush bar. I am also of the opinion that they changed their formula over time because towards the end there, the quality of my hair dipped which led me to look elsewhere. TLDR; START HERE FOR THE DEGREASER SHAMPOO! At this point I already knew what to look for, so it was just a matter of shopping around. I somehow stumbled on Maple Holistics. (I actually ordered their Silk18 conditioner first, probably because I still had some old shampoo left.) I then decided on their degreaser shampoo. You might ask why I didn't go for the tea tree shampoo instead because of my scalp issues. I don't really remember but I can think of two reasons. One reason would be the rosemary ingredient, which was in my favorite Lush shampoo. But also because my hair does get very oily. I mentioned in the beginning that I used to have color-treated hair. Well I stopped dyeing it, maybe 7 years ago, and it's mostly grown out by now. I have... a LOT of hair, of all different thicknesses. Thin fine hairs, thick coarse hairs, and everything in between. If I make a bun it's about 5" across, in a ponytail it's maybe 2". My hair's down to my waist so I'd say it'd probably be around the 2' mark. It's also wavy. I don't use heat on my hair and let it air dry. I started using this shampoo exclusively a little over two years ago. (2017-present) I included my order history to prove that. It's been too long to effectively compare this to my favorite [Lush] shampoo but I'm not looking to switch any time soon. This keeps my oily scalp and my eczema at bay. If I'm active (working out/running) I'll shampoo every other day, otherwise maybe twice a week. Although I do notice my eczema creep up if I hold off shampooing for too long. I feel like this should go without saying but I fear some people still don't know how to properly wash their hair. You shampoo your scalp and condition your hair. The shampoo runoff will cleanse the rest of your hair, and you don't scrub with your nails... I shampoo twice and condition once. (I'm still not sold on the curly girl hair method so I'm not gonna go there but I did try a round of DevaCurl products at one point and...meh) And for people who complain that it doesn't lather... It's sulfate-free, it's not supposed to lather, that's the POINT. Same goes for body washes. What makes your soaps lather, is what's bad for youuuu. So ya. I love this shampoo and will continue to use it. My hair is very healthy and looks fabulous. I hope I've put some skeptics minds at ease with this review. It's a great shampoo that doesn't deserve the weird hate its been getting. I could include a photo of my hair if people want, but I don't have a before photo so I don't know how that would help.

Absolutely Love!
I just finished my first bottle of this shampoo, and I have absolutely loved it from my first use until now! I am a mid-30s, white female with very soft, wavy hair that tangles very easily and is prone to frizz and flyaways, especially in my tropical (extremely humid) climate (sorry, I have never been able to figure out my actual hair type). My hair also gets very oily very quickly, all the way down to the ends. And, just in the past several years, my scalp has been producing excessive DHT which has caused patches of hair thinning :( My first bottle of this shampoo (that Iโm finally getting to review) lasted for an entire six months! My naturally fast-growing hair was shoulder-blade-length when I first started using it, and it is now waist-length. I lather in just over a quarter-sized amount to cover my scalp, letting it absorb for about 3 minutes before rinsing with cold water. Because I donโt go out much, I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days, but when I have to go out more than one day in a row, I must then wash it daily, otherwise my hair will be too oily to be presentable by my standards. For the first few months, instead of following up with a conditioner, I used a diluted Apple Cider Vinegar final rinse, but once my hair got long, this practice wouldnโt suffice to deal with the tangles I was getting. Iโm careful not to rip my hair when brushing (gotta avoid those split-ends), so after struggling with some dryness of my ends while absolutely loving this shampoo otherwise, I decided to try their conditioner (Maple Holistics Silk18), and omg, that changed everything! I look forward to finishing the conditioner bottle so that I can write a raving review for it also, because itโs the best thing ever! Since Iโve been using this shampoo (and eventually the conditioner as well) my hair has stopped falling out and is growing in more thickly around my scalp. I can actually get through and entire day without my scalp and most of my hair being overtaken by oilyness. And, my hair is beautifully soft, silky, and shiny. My long-haired husband has even started using and loving it as well, and he usually puts zero effort into things like this. He actually likes a beauty product; Iโm stunned! On the packaging, you are prompted to request a free bottle. I did so and received my free bottle months ago. The manufacturer asked that I write a review (which I was already intending to do once I got completely through my first bottle) and show it to them, but I was never pushed to skew my opinions or have the review submitted to them or posted here before they sent me the free bottle, and I respect the integrity of such an exchange. After months, I will finally be showing them this review. I love that they also have a recycling program that lets you earn more free products, so hold onto those old, empty bottles. Overall, I highly recommend this shampoo (and its sister conditioner) for people with a similar hair-type to mine, even though Iโm on the poverty line. The results and time it takes to get through a full bottle are totally worth the price. I will keep buying it forever if I can!

Effective and quick easy cleanser
Look at picture : Bottle looks larger in the picture than actual received product I am on my third bottle. My hair has not been itchy ever since I used this shamooo. The only other shampoo that wouldnโt give me itchiness was another brand โnatureโs โ but they recently changed their formula and have sls so I was at loss what shampoo to use. I even stopped using shampoo and was using home made alternatives. However due to time constraints and a messy bathtub after every hair wash with homemade products I decided to purchase a bottle of this shampoo. I did not put a quarter size amount but a four inch diameter blob into my hair. I rinsed out after few minutes and repeated with two quarter sized amounts. My hair is no longer itchy from either the shampoo or the apple cider rinse that I do after every washing. Also my hair isnโt greasy anymore. Before when my hair was used to shampoo washing,it would be sooooo greasy if I didnโt wash it for a week. However after a week of no washing, my hair is still not greasy. I am happy with the purchase and it would get five stars if it wasnโt 17$ for an average sized bottle. However, due to my itchy scalp from all the brands that are sold in my health food store, including Whole Foods 365 brand, ( thumbs down ) I shall stick with this one. I would like to add that my husband uses their conditioner and loves using it. He is on their third bottle.i also have their tea tree shampoo and sadly that makes my hair itchy and doesnโt clean as well as this one

Better than the salonโs!
I have an oily scalp that (before Degrease) would look greasy again shortly after a wash, and my scalp would get itchy specifically at the base of my head. My hair stylist recommended their sponsored balancing product but it only made my hair feel heavy and did nothing to keep the oily sheen away. Finally I found Degrease. Just after my first wash with this product my hair noticeably felt lighter and looked brighter! It felt so refreshing and what a relief! Now I can go two to three days without washing my hair and it still looks and feels oil free. My scalp feels better and healthier too. This is one of those products where a little goes a long way. A small dollop on the hand lathers wonderfully and massages well into my hair and scalp. The smell isnโt overbearing or unpleasant but has a nice hint of lemon among its essential oils. I also love this shampoo for all the things it DOESNโT have: sulfate free, paraben free, cruelty free; not to mention, hypoallergenic and perfect for sensitive skin (a real plus for me). After so much searching, this is my new favorite shampoo that really takes care of my hair and keeps it looking and feeling great.

I really wanted to like this...
As an avid pursuer of natural hair care, I was excited to find this product. I have had very greasy hair for as long as I can remember, with my hair getting oily and clumpy by the afternoon most days. After fighting it with products, I tried a more natural approach. I have to say that rye flour was a miracle. Just a couple tbsps of rye flour in water, blend it up, and good to go. I got down to washing my hair twice a week. It was soft, bouncy, and healthy. Unfortunately, this was not as easy for travel, so I started researching again. I settled on shampoo bars (I love Beauty & the Bees). These also allowed my hair to look good for three or four days. I had many stresses come into my life and my scalp started getting flaky. Since I wasn't ready to give up on the natural, holistic approach, I bought this shampoo. The first day I used it, I was so amazed with the results! It seemed like everything I was looking for, but the results don't last long at all. My hair looks good for maybe a day and a half, then my scalp starts to get itchy and the old clumpy, oily hair is back full force. I have been using this shampoo for two months now, hoping it would just take some time to see full results. I honestly think it's getting worse... Three stars because my scalp issues have been cleared up. No more embarrassing flakes and my hair looks gorgeous on wash day. Two stars deducted because the oily hair returns far too fast for my taste. I would recommend this to friends with dandruff problems or oily scalps that currently use chemical-laden products. It's definitely better than that. I would NOT recommend it to those looking for a "Low Poo" option, unless you're still interested in washing every day. As for me, I'll be returning to shampoo bars.

Potentially resolved a lifetime hair problem.
I've had oily hair for my whole life but only recently was I aware of what it was -- once a hair stylist suggested the "gunk" in my hair was leftover product (gel, hairspray, etc.) but I never use product in my hair. Only recently I did a search to find out the name of the "gray gunk" in my combs and brushes to learn it's called "sebum" which is "an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands." I've never made an effort to do anything about it, although I've taken very long showers for the last 10 years after I was told rinsing my hair more effectively would solve the problem (it didn't). Out of the blue, I decided to look up products that could help remove sebum, something I had never tried before and found Degrease which is currently the #1 product in its category on Amazon. I was skeptical that it would be effective, despite the good reviews, but decided it was worth a shot. Last Saturday, I got a haircut and tried Degrease when I showered to rinse out all the stray hairs. And it was life-changing. All the sebum was gone and my hair looked soft and manageable. I switched to my normal shampoo/conditioner routine (off and on between two brands) since so I didn't overdo Degrease and it's maintained its oil-free sheen. I'm shocked that it was this easy. When I read positive reviews, I always assume they're friends of the company or were given free product or had fluke experiences. But at this moment in time, the product has worked for me and I'm very happy because of it.

Effective Shampoo for Grease Related Dandruff
I have had issues with dandruff since high school and tried multiple antidandruff shampoos and various natural options all through college without much success. I started researching what might be causing the issue and decided to try the Maple Holistics Degrease shampoo to see if excess grease was the issue. The shampoo cleared up my dandruff within the first week of use and it has not been an issue since. My hair has been healthier and looked better ever without the harsh chemicals of antidandruff shampoos drying it out. I followed the directions on the bottle exactly and had great results. As an added bonus even though the directions recommend washing your hair twice each time you use it the amounts suggested are very small and a single bottle lasts me for months even with almost daily washing early on. I have noticed that reducing the recommendation to one washing is still enough to keep the grease and dandruff down for a week or two. I also appreciate that while pleasant smelling the shampoo is not overly fragrant or flowery. Overall a great product and if you have grease related dandruff issues it seems to work exceptionally well. I would highly recommend giving this product a try.

If itโs not broke then donโt fix itโฆ
I had been buying this shampoo since 2017, it had worked until they changed the formula. This last purchase, (2025) the shampoo looked as though it had conditioner in it? It no longer works. Instead it made my hair oilier. Thereโs a saying if itโs not broke then donโt fix it. The old formula was perfect.

Great deep cleaning shampoo
I get sore spots on my scalp from time to time, though I don't have dandruff. This shampoo seems to settle my scalp down very nicely. Very happy with this product, though it could do with a more appealing name.

Does the job really well
It is good at reducing oil but it is prone to leave the hair quite dry. I used Tecna Teabase before and it is as effective with the oil and the hair looks healthier.
