Are line in and adat inputs separate (i.e. capable of being hooked up to separate sources simultaneously), or not?

Yes, they are separate. x8s have a maximum of 18 simultaneous inputs, 8 analog, 8 ADAT, and 2 SPDIF.

So this x8 comes 16 plugins at $2600 and the Heritage version only comes with 10 at $3100.00?

No, the Heritage comes with the 16 that the non HE has PLUS 10 more premium plugins. That's approximately $40 per plug!! It's an incredible value.
