In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by - he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

Just Watch It, Please!
Oh My! Now that was one action flick that took me down memory lane, when Bollywood used to produce proper "Masala" movies where our tired (and lost, scarred, drunk: usually) protagonists used to find (their) just cause at some point roughly after one-third of the film was over, and then rendered the film red, in all senses. This film was exactly that, with two distinct superiority: (a) it deliberately omitted all mention of our hero's past, and thus saved me from those moronic flashbacks that are so much loved in Bollywood; (b) it didn't have any of those ghastly song & dance tracks that often make watching Hindi movies a Kafkaesque nightmare. Highly Recommended.

Horrible Product
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. It's a horrible DVD I had received. Really this DVD make me very disappointed. It got lots of blockage while running and finally the DVD stop playing. This is second time, I got such a stupid item. I think Amazon is not so much reliable for purchasing such kind of products, not even replacement policy also eligible for this products. All depends on the customer luck. Really disappointing.

Only one word to describe this movie - Awesome
Well, this turned out to be great surprise and a pleasant one. I never expected Denzel Washington to play such kind of a role. The movie is full of action with Denzel doing complete justice to the role. I highly recommend to buy this movie if you don't have it in your collection.

Training Day - the Good Guy!
After watching Liam Neeson post Taken, I was a little apprehensive to see Denzel - especially after Safe House and the one with him driving a train (damn he made it look good though!)This movie takes it time to build up and when the action begins, it takes off on a ride. Not too thrilled with the final action sequence, but that would be nit picking. Do I see a sequel coming?

Decent stuff
I enjoyed this thriller to a certain extent, it's not a non stop thrill ride but that's not necessarily a bad thing and there's enough entertainment to make it worth a go.It's a loose reimagining of the 80's TV show with Denzel Washington playing Robert McCall - another one of these seemingly average guys who it turns out actually have a very particular set of skills. He uses these skills to set right some wrongs in his local neighbourhood - violently. Whilst protecting a young prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz) he takes on some very bad men and runs into trouble with the Russian mob. Has he bitten off more than he can chew? Probably not.It takes a while to get going and maintains a deliberate pace throughout whilst occasionally exploding into life. If it's gunplay and explosions you're after then you'll get them eventually but you will have to wait for them. Denzel previously teamed with director Antoine Fuqua on Training Day - a good film elevated by a firecracker performance from the big man. He's more restrained here but it's a good performance of almost equal menace. On the other side of the fence sit some suitably intense villains for him to play off. Moretz I thought was sadly underused in a role that becomes as much of a plot device as anything else. It's all nicely shot, maintains a solid air of tension throughout and has a decent enough payoff to make it worthwhile overall.

A film to see more than once.
The first time I watched this I loved the opening 20-25 mins, mostly set in little diner. So the first act is great. The 2nd act maintains a good standard, and then the final act is where on first viewing I thought it let itself down a bit. However having re-watched the film a few times now it's really grown on me. I still think there is one scene in the final 15-20 mins which is a mistake. But that aside I really like it.Although this is based on an old TV series, to me what Denzil Washington's (he's great as always) character reminded me of most of all was Clint Eastwood's Palerider/High Plains Drifter ghostly gunfighter, who is virtually invincible, and indeed in one scene near the end another character virtually quotes from Palerider. So overall it's a thumbs up from me.

Denzel, the reaper
Denzel at his scariest unstoppable best. Doncha just love him? A story of bringing justice for the 'little person' by a guy well able to deal justice out. I just love Denzel stories and how he 'lives' into each role. He is believable and enjoyable and this is a darned good film.

Much better than reviews suggests
This is a much better film than many reviews would suggest. Yes, it is all-action filled, yes, there are graphic scenes and yes, the storyline could be richer, but overall this remains a good film. Washington is his usual menacing, good guy, self. His character originating in the now familiar background of a retired CIA "technician", seeking to lead a quiet life, until stirred into action by witnessesing an assault on a young prostitute. Washington easily carries off this type of role. Throughout the film the viewer remains curious - "just how will he deal with this, or that situation". The prostitutes story - played by the upcoming Chloe Grace Moretz, an actress who despite her youth, can certainly deliver a good line - could have been much better used. The viewer is drawn into her life very briefly. We just begin to get curious and involved in her background and life, expecting to hear and see much more of this character. She is the catalyst which draws Washington out of his quiet life back into "traffic". Despite the importance of her role at this point and the developing and unlikely friendship between her and Washington, she is sidelined far too quickly and film then develops without her. This leaves the viewer wanting "answers". True, the end of the film does try to "catch up" with her character, but really the film should have made much more use of such a talented actress. Nonetheless, this is still very watchable stuff. Some critics have been unfairly damming of the film. I often wonder just what these people actually expect from a film. Little wonder why so many films have so much better viewer reviews than so-called professional critics! This film is fiction. It is not intended to reflect true life characters. It is not a biopic, nor is it factual. It IS entertaining. Forget the sceptics. This is Washington at top level. A very good film which, with just a little more thought about the script, could so easily have been a really great film. Sit back, watch and enjoy!

Superbly photographed
I initially thought this movie might have been directed by Tony Scott as it has a very similar feel to one of Washington's previous movies - 'Deja Vu'. That too starts carefully and pays attention to character development. Instead it comes from Antoine Fuqua - who I'd not even heard of but is the buy behind another Washington success 'Training Day'. Based on exactly the same back story as the original TV series staring Edward Woodward, ex-secret agent Robert McCall drags himself retirement to help out a very young hooker (Chloë Moretz) who is being mistreated by her pimps - who turn out to be high level Russian Mafia. Casting and production are both good and I was relieved that its turned out to be a decent big screen conversion of a series I used to really like - although no use is made of the original Stewart Copeland theme music. Benefits from BluRay presentation too. Recommended.
