Great resource for all levels of home brewers

There is a ton of information online about brewing Cider. However, some of it is conflicting, and most of it is piecemeal spread across multiple websites and forums. It is honestly nice to have all the information you need and more in one place. The book is written well, with lots of background information. The included recipes are easy to follow, and it has tons of references and tips. This book is great for beginners as a starting place to learn, but contains enough valuable information that it is worth the purchase for people looking to brew cider at any level.

Show me to the apples!

This book is sure to inspire a lot of great home made cider. It which should be popular among homebrewers who are looking to expand their game and for newcomers, some of whom may have avoided homebrewing for personal tastes or other reasons, such as gluten sensitivity. It does not assume a knowledge of homebrewing but does sometimes highlight areas where that activity overlaps with cider-making, and might inspire some aspiring cidermakers to also become homebrewers. Several recipes are provided, including traditional ciders but also, perhaps with a nod to Randy Mosher's Radical Brewing, several off-beat ones. There is also some interesting information about post-fermentation adjustment of cider, which is familiar territory for the wine-making crowd but may be new to some readers who came from a homebrewing background. Additionally, the author shows a strong scientific curiosity, which led to interesting side notes highlighting botany, the natural history of the apple, apple varieties, plant biochemistry, yeast, and the like, which helped earn a 5th star from this plant biologist.

It does indeed have "everything"…

but the book can be a little light on details at times.Although I'd advise getting at least one of the other Cider books Amazon recommends (not sure just which if only one) this book does indeed seem to have "everything", even a skimpy section on growing your own orchard. Some good stuff here!Oddly organized at times, you'll want to take extensive notes (8 blank pages in back could be used for that), but you'll find hints and details that most if not all of the other books don't have. No pictures or diagrams but plenty of detail…you can probably get along with just this book alone.I myself don't care for some of the recipes (some of them are for cooking with cider, others use Apple juice, some do neither) and I guess the wine, beer & so on recipes (Lemon wine?) are there just in case you find you enjoy brewing and want to try something else .It's worth having.

I had a touch of buyer's remorse between the time ...

I had a touch of buyer's remorse between the time when I ordered this book and the date when it arrived. Eager to get started on making cider, I had begun conducting extensive online research about different ideas that I had. For a time, I wondered whether or not I had spend money on something which would just duplicate what I already learned onlin. When I received this book, however, I stayed up all night (on a weeknight) reading it from cover to cover. Instead of having to try to piece together a variety of different articles or puzzle out what questions I need to ask, this volume answered every question I had. It even answered questions which I did not know that I needed or wanted to ask. It is a veritable encyclopedia of cider knowledge.

Excellent Book

Just started making my own cider and this book made me enjoy it so much. I bought a bunch of other books and my mom gave me a few others. By far this book is the one I read the most. This book is the one I open first when I forget something or I wanted to understand something better. For beginers it is probably the the easiest one to understand and it gives an in depth view on how to get drunk with apples lol. The other books either were too simple and didn't answer my questions, and the others went to in depth into the specifics and droned on for pages and pages.

This is a very good book that covers the fundamentals of making hard apple ...

This is a very good book that covers the fundamentals of making hard apple cider. For home beer makers who are interested in simply experimenting with hard cider, I think this would be an excellent book. As a foundation for learning the basics of making hard cider, this would be my recommendation as a first book. However, for those who want to either grow their own cider apples or purchase cider apple juice made from traditional cider apples, the book comes up short; but there are a lot of people who aren't interested in that part of making hard apple cider so I won't nick it on my five-star rating. This is a well-written, informative book that should be in the library of anyone venturing into making hard cider at home.

Average information. Nothing I didn’t come across in casual online cider searching

This book gives good basic information but was not in depth really at all. I expected more detailed info. Felt like I had already heard everything here by some basic internet searching and YouTube videos on cider making

The perfect jumping off point

Ordered yesterday and I’m already halfway through. The material is extremely digestible due to the easy-reading style of the writing. Great mix of recipes that you can adjust to make your own. A plethora of material is covered from the basics of fermentation (primary and secondary), dry hopping, carbonation, yeast strains and much much more. For the weary beginner there’s no better place to start. Cannot recommend enough!

Right on!

Right on! Covers all of what you need to know, even more. The author is quite sharp. Also wrote Experimental Homebrewing among others. Cannot go wrong with him.

The barely something hard cider book

I have spent some time trying not to be too...hard with this book. But the point is that it is very far from basic expectations when you approach cider. - Hygiene and microbiological considérations seem to be irrelevant for the author ("cleaning & sanitizing" takes two pages out of 304), whereas they are essential in good cider making. - In the chapter about "world ciders", it seems that the author never went to Europe (French Normandy cider is missing, Spanish Asturias cider is missing too. These two are 50% of European market) and did his work from patchs he got in internet. - Few useful real cider recipes (unless you find essential the "cider cheese fondue" one, or the "apple bacon onion jam", the "cider BBQ sauce". No comments). - Poor glossary. It does not help very much. - In "Additional Resources", you are merely oriented to anglosaxon ((80% USA, 20% UK)web sites and organizations, which is fine, but, please, do not title the book "The Everything Hard Cider Book" which is not. Far from everything, really. The final impression is: What a pity, such a wonderful and inspiring topic, killed by such a botch job.

Poco tecnico

Da un libro che si propone come "tutto sul sidro" mi aspettavo una trattazione più tecnica e meno scherzosa. Le ricette a base di sidro, a mio avviso, risultano superflue per chi vuole imparare a produrlo e non ad utilizzarlo.
