Very narrow application. Sleek design, though.
You need to understand what you're getting here: This is a VESA-based desktop stand for monitors that are otherwise very thin portable units, and *that's it*. It's not suitable for just any old VESA monitor, AND your portable monitor needs to have VESA mounting holes on the back.I went through 8 monitors in the house. This unit wasn't compatible with any of them. I have a thin portable monitor, but it had no VESA holes. I have 3 monitors with VESA mounting holes, but they're not the ultra-thin portable type, so the includes screws are too short to reach through the mounting plate and into the threads (see photos). And this is probably intentional - it would be asking a lot of this stand to carry thicker, non-portable monitors. This product is surely very good for its very specific application: if you want to convert a portable monitor *WITH* VESA holes to be a desktop monitor, this would do great. And the design is sleek, and I really like that they allowed the user to adjust the tension of most of the joints (all but the rotation of the main arm on the base, which is the least critical one to tension).I'm also just mildly disappointed that the base doesn't have holes to wall-mount it, but again, that's not within the narrow use case of this product: it's a desktop conversion stand for a portable monitor, and that's it.It's a hard call, but I think I'll have to give it only 4 stars, not because there's anything wrong with it per se, but it just isn't as useful as you might think it is, unless you have one of these portable monitors with VESA holes and no desktop stand (in which case it would be great).

A nearly perfect monitor travel stand
This little monitor stand has been a surprise to me. It’s very simple, but also extremely functional. With just a couple small changes, it would be even better! The product description for this stand is pretty accurate, as are the pictures. What can’t really be expressed in the pictures, however, is how heavy duty this little stand is. Instead of a modern 6mm thin monitor I’d normally use this with, I decided to try to attach a 20-year-old 15” LCD panel that weighs more than the stand itself, and it held just fine! I did have to tighten the joints a bit using the included hex key, but that was no problem at all. My only concern for durability is the plastic ball joint on the VESA mount piece itself. I’d gladly give up the ability to rotate the monitor in favor of a more durable mechanism.Other than that ball joint, I do have three other suggestions for this product, based on is being advertised as a “travel stand.” First, include a small pouch or case for the folded stand, just to make it easier to carry. Second, use thumbscrews instead of Phillips head screws for attaching the monitor. Finally, include an extra screw. If the stand is designed to be attached, detached, and moved around, screws will get lost!

A solid option for a portable monitor with a VESA mount
Portable travel monitors are an undeniable convenience for those who need multiple displays while on the go. But what they provide in utility and convenience, they lack in ergonomics, as they rarely include a stand to elevate the screen to a more comfortable viewing height. This portable stand seeks to address that issue by combining some familiar components into a compact but sturdy package, though its use of a VESA mount ultimately limits its compatibility with monitors that only have a rear kickstand, which was the case with my monitor. Fortunately, in my supplies I had a tablet jaw clamp that fit the stand's ball joint connector, so I was still able to use the stand despite its limitation. Ideally, the package would have included a jaw clamp as an alternative method to hold the monitor (see photos), or to grasp other kinds of devices like a phone or tablet.Aside from that, users will appreciate the nicely machined aluminum parts that make up the rotating circular base and multi-jointed arm, though the use of a hex key (which stores neatly in underside of the base) to loosen and tighten the joints make set up more complicated than if threaded knobs were used instead. With my 15" portable monitor, the stand raised the screen about 7 inches off my desk – not enough to get it to eye level, but an improvement nonetheless. Folded down the stand is reasonably compact, though its questionable how "portable" it truly is if the monitor mounting plate is not removed. Realistically, I see the stand more suited to a semi-permanent set up than something that gets set up and taken down repeatedly.Overall, if you're looking for a compact but stable stand for your portable monitor, this is a good option as long as your monitor has VESA mounting.
