Q: Does this one also prevent mildew? i know there is a combi mildew-free version, so i wasn't sure if they now add a mildew protectant to this.

I use it on my bridle and have never had a problem with mildew. I’m not certain if it is because I keep it clean or because this product retards mildew, but I do know this is a very good product.

Q: I have an older bottle of this. Smells a bit like rubbing alcohol. Is this the normal smell?

Yes. New bottles smell like that also. Best leather cleaner made.

Q: Do you leave it on or wipe it off after so many minutes?

i just wipe it on with a small circular tack sponge. then i have a dry cloth to get any residual dirt off. really good for expensive fine soft leathers, wont damage stitching. i have a prestige jumper saddle and an equipe dressage saddle. use on both. once and awhile i use the effax balsam after as I am in a dry climate

Q: Do I need to use leather soap before this using product?

No need to soap first, this cleans the leather. I follow up with conditioner. I love this stuff, by the way. In combination with the Effax leather conditioner, my tack has never looked or felt better. I am a fan.
