Colourful Wayuu Bags to Crochet: A guide to making tapestry crochet bags

My book just arrived, and it has exceeded all my expectations. I preordered this before I discovered all of the other online resources for this specialty type of crochet. I am very glad I ordered it because it is a very detailed book with all of the information you need in one place. The book goes into great details on technique, everything from the size of the crochet hook to use to troubleshooting techniques. Several patterns are included, and the patterns include both diagrams and worded instructions. Also included is a chapter on making shoulder straps. The author includes directions on ply-split braiding with patterns that start simple and get more complex as you progress. There is also a section on Kumihimo for making the drawstring. The pictures in the book are very clear and crisp. Although online videos are helpful for learning, I would definitely consider this book a must-have reference.

I have made my first bag and the directions are very clear... Until i get to the ply split braiding. The directions say to use 8 3/4 yards to make the cord. That's 25 feet. Really? Then split in half to 4 3/4 yards, make a loop on the middle. I'm very confused at this point. I've made the bag and the drawstring but i can't imagine using 12 feet of yarn to make a shoulder strap. I think the end result will be around 6 feet but that's very long do it seems that something is incorrect. I wanted to update my review. I finally understood what I needed to do and yes , these long stands are necessary. The cord is folded in half, then half again and the double strands are twisted, held taught, folded in half and allowed to twist together while being hung with a weight. Then they are used to make the straps. The bag I made is beautiful and the strap is almost finished.

I am so glad I bought this book! Amazingly BEAUTIFUL bags😍! Patterns are well written & photos are clear. If this type of crochet interests you, you will l❤️ve this book! There honestly isn't one pattern that I wouldn't make 🤯!! And that, in itself, is a work of art in a pattern book! Thanks to the designers, testers, photographer, & editors for an Amazing job👏👏!

Ten bags featured in the book. Instructions seem to be thorough. I am initially not sure of the charts, I had hoped they would be a bit bigger (whole page instead of half page).

Clearly written patterns and charts. Lots of different patterns to try. Very detailed and easy to follow. Great bag and strap patterns. Definitely worth purchasing.

The bags are beautiful and although I haven't crocheted one yet, the directions look easy to follow. I hope to crochet one soon.

A good book, I’m still reading it and I’m following instructions carefully. I do find that it’s a bit tricky though to get the stitches correct.
