The best permanent DIY haircolor
I have been coloring my hair for 30 years. I used to use Clairol Nice and Easy but my husband constantly complained about the smell. It was pretty bad. I also didn't like the color for the first week after I used it. It would take a couple of washings for it to settle into my hair. I saw an ad for Madison Reed and decided to try it. No smell, no harsh ingredients and gluten free! The color is beautiful the first day. I feel like it is better quality for my hair and worth spending a little bit more. Still cheaper than going to a salon!Cons: It is more money than Nice and Easy. I also don't like that I have to leave it on for 45 minutes. I have some grey and it really struggles to cover the greys. I used to use a shade lighter, but Madison Reed recommended I go a shade darker to cover the greys better. It worked and I do like the color.

Best at home hair color out there
My favorite brand. It’s pricier than what I normally buy but it’s well worth it. Stays a lot longer than other brands, that’s for sure. Have never had discoloration from using a different brand and then using this one, colors my gray better than anything else I’ve found and my hair feels great afterwards. Highly recommend!

Disappointed
I always used the Pisa blonde but thought I would try a shade darker. This color may not be the best choice for me but I was very disappointed in Madison Reed. This shade was dull flat no variation in color. I’ve always liked MR because the shade (Pisa blonde) was always so shiny with subtle color variations and didn’t look like I just colored my hair. This time with the shade change it looked like the cheapest hair color you could use.

Good be better
Good product. Impressed with the items in the box. Color was good however the color could have done a better job covering the gray. I have tried it multiple times to ensure I was evenly applying the color. Could be better.

Product design issues leaving less than optimal results
I was really wanting to give this product a chance. I hadn’t colored my hair in many years and I felt I needed to lighted my light brown roots to match up better with the ends that were naturally highlighted over time. The color I chose was close to the color of my ends. I was pleased that Madison Reed had instructions for my situation, first time color with darker roots. However, the design of the products made the mixing of color vs. activator challenging. It said to mix 50% of each together in a bowl. One was in a metal tube the other in a plastic squeeze bottle. I had to guess how much was 50%. The bottles had no demarcation of half so I did my best and mixed up the solution in a glass bowl. After I applied the color to the lower parts of my hair as instructed I noticed that the activator gel had settled. The gel after pouring out took several minutes to full settle in the bottom and I saw that my ratio wasn’t right. I was already 7 minutes in to the process with the color on my hair. I decided to mix the rest together and color my whole head hoping it would balance out. I am not sure if that was the best choice because my resulting color was not great, it was a bit brassy which I can live with but it also darker my highlights. I will accept user error with the color but the main problem was it made my hair feel like steel wool. Even after washing and using the provided condition, which usually make my hair feel amazing after dying, it was still rough. I have washed it almost daily since coloring and every time my hair gets wet it feels rough. I hope that this helps anyone considering this product. I was really hopeful but disappointed.

Doesn’t cover grey satisfactory
I usually use Preferrence by L’Oreal. It cost about $10. It did a nice job covering greys and I was happy with it. I then decided to try Madison Reed expecting a far superior product given that its price was about $30. It did not cover my greys all that well and I still have a root line down my part. I left the color on for 45 minutes as stated. It has been onlyn1 day since I colored my hair so I will see how it looks as time goes on.

Color is as good as a salon product
I’ve been using Madison Reed haircolor for 8 months. I’m very happy with the results. It comes nicely packaged with shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, gloves, cleansing wipe, barrier cream.
