Wonderfully smooth and affordable.
I know most people don't read 5 star reviews but I am hopeful that you will read mine. I read another great review and it turned me around to purchase these. They are very smooth, highly pigmented and have a wonderful color selection. I really do love having 7 greys to choose from but I would have easily given one of them up for an extra white. Instead I purchased 2 white Sennelier oil pastels so that I have extra. If you want to stick with Mungyos and can't find single colors here you can always find them at Jerrys Artarama, who is the art store selling these via Amazon.I purchased an expensive set of Sennelier oil pastels as well but like another reviewer said he uses both together. These would easily be great for my underpainting. but I will use these forever. Buy them. They are worth it. They are so affordable in a nice wood box, and are great pastels so how could you ask for more!!

NOT GALLERY!!!! As title advertises
Mungyo Gallery Oil Pastels Wood Box Set of 72 Standard - Assorted Colors- FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! What I bought claimed these were Gallery, says so clearly in the title. These are NOT Gallery quality as that title indicates. See my pics below and you will see that not only do none of the pastels have the word Gallery on them, it's not stated anywhere on the box as Gallery. I've added a pic of Mungyo Gallery pastels that I own so you can see the difference in the labels. Now, if it were only labels that were different, that would be ok, however it isn't. I was SO excited for these to arrive! Absolutely could not wait! And loved the box! But my hopes were quickly dashed. When compared back to back there's a noticeable difference in quality. True gallery pastels are much more buttery, making a more fluid feeling line that flows and blend better than the ones here. Think of it as the difference between Crayola crayons and cheap crayons a restaurant gives kids. That is the best way I can think to describe the difference. I'd read the reviews and hoped there wouldn't be a big difference, that any difference would be negligible, but it simply wasn't so. I would rather pay a similar price for fewer colors and have the gallery quality than pay for this and fight it. That's just my opinion. I'm terribly disappointed with the false advertising that these are gallery quality when they clearly aren't. Sending them back.

Not close to Sennelier quality
I read a ton of online reviews along with Amazon reviews and ordered this set based on the numerous good reviews and the price. Maybe if I had not already been using the Sennilier brand and couldn’t compare strike for stroke, I would have thought these were better. But I was was just trying to save money and praying these were a low cost alternative. Honestly folks, there is just no comparison. If you are buying for a student or just playing around, these are better than others I have used and comparable to Windsor and Newton but there is no comparison to the Sennelier brand of oil pastels. These are not soft and do not transfer as smoothly. Don’t get me wrong. I made some decent looking pieces with them but I won’t buy them again. Sennelier are definitely top of the line but are also so expensive. If you are a serious artist, save your money. If you are just having a good time, these will work.

There is a confusion in the orders.
I think there has been confusion on different orders coming from Amazon.I bought this set last fall and I received the Gallery rich in pigment box ( not the one shown in the picture the box is more square)they are as good as Sennelier's and a step above the Van gogh oil pastels..Then I ordered the square pastels and I got the box pictured with "wax crayon quality" oil pastels.I ordered it again to see if I could eventually get the chalk pastels and they sent me the same low quality oil pastel set.I didn't return them because I used the box for my Sennelier and Holbein pastels and had to buy the soft pastels through another site.Resuming. If they get the order right the Gallery pastels are very high quality.

Not what I ordered
The description stated these are supposed to be the "Gallery" oils and are just the basic oils. They are no where near as pigmented or as soft as the Gallery Oil Pastels I ordered a few weeks ago. There's tons of colors; however, these are very different than the Gallery Oil Pastels. I was so excited until I opened them. Also UPS was 3 hours late and cop knocked waking my infant. Not your fault but dang!!! Better luck next time for me I guess.

This is a nice set of colors in an attractive
This is a nice set of colors in an attractive, sturdy box. I tried using them on white Canson Mi-Teintes paper, and got a good result; but on rust-colored Mi-Teintes paper, not so much - the white wouldn't go white, the sky blue was too thin to cover the rust background color, and the greens and browns were too waxy and thin without enough pigment in them. My go-to oil pastels are Senneliers and while the Mungyos are supposed to be top grade student quality, they are still too light with too little covering power on colored papers or grounds. I tried to blend these pastels using odorless mineral spirits, and they just disintegrated - didn't blend at all. Not sure why. Just somewhat disappointing. A nice practice set but I wouldn't depend on them or use them for serious art work.

Very Good Buy
I usually work with soft pastels, but decided to challenge myself and treat myself to this set of oil pastels. They are different, and of course the techniques for painting with them are different. After almost 2 months, I have completed some paintings, but I have to admit I am still learning about this medium. I believe they are really good quality, and they lay down on the paper like butter. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to have a great start using a new medium. Experiment! Go For It!
