Works as intended!

I lost my Suunto version of this that I had for years, and I use it as a cinematographer to know exactly where the sun will be when we shoot. This one is a perfect replacement for a much lower price. It's solidly built, very similar to the Suunto, and in fact if it were handed to me without me knowing, I would have thought it was made by Suunto except for the little Steren label. Even the red lanyard is the same. My iPhone has the Helios app on it to tell me the Azimuth and Inclination, and while I can use the iPhone itself for most locations to get me a rough indication, I find that it's not as accurate as I sometimes need to be. If it's critical to know when the sun will come through a window or the light will be perfect (or when the light will become terrible), this is a great product.

I used this clinometer to estimate the position of the sun in the sky prior to an eclipse. My original plan was to be in the mountains, but thanks to a cloudy-weather forecast I moved to the plains. Using the clinometer I estimated that the eclipse would occur at about the elevation of the bottom of the wind turbine blade (when the blade was perfectly vertical). This was a correct estimate. Using the compass with my tripod was not effective because many of the components of the tripod are magnetic. I used a threaded shoe adapter to connect the clinometer to my tripod (amazon ASIN: B07RM41DSX).

Great for outdoor surveying.

It's odd that the pouch has s dish network logo on it and they don't mention it. I work for a directv and ViaSat contractor so it's weird carrying the dish logo, but it works amazingly well. I had a suunto before that died after years of abuse, and I find the numbers on this easier to read and clearer. Not to mention the price difference. I've recommended it to everyone I work with as well

The Steren 203-661 combination compass/clinometer is accurate enough for my needs. It has a solid aluminum build, and easy to read. The clinometer and compass both seem reliable, and it feels like a decent alternative to the much more expensive Suunto Tandem. However, right out of the brand new box, both lenses have visible adhesive/glue residue (or what looks like dried glue lines) trapped under the clear covers. It’s on both lenses, which makes it obvious it’s a manufacturing/assembly issue rather than damage. It doesn’t affect the actual performance or readings, but it’s annoying and unprofessional-looking for a tool in this price range ($100). I expected better quality control at this price point. If you’re okay with a minor cosmetic flaw on an otherwise usable tool, it’s fine. If you want something pristine, you might want to look elsewhere or be prepared to request a replacement.

Don’t know what to say, use to do satellite for a living and had one, when I got out of it in 09 I use my for personal use when going camping well it malfunction last year so had to replace it

I am an amateur radio operator and radio enthusiast. I have a DirectTV satellite for my trailer. What makes this old fashioned, highly accurate instrument special is that it does not depend on batteries or cellular service. I use this instrument for locating AMSAT and DirectTV satellites. I also use it calibrate the dish on my home to ensure that I have the strongest possible signal. I highly recommend it.

I really like this because you can attach it to a tripod. I bought a leveler to go with the compass/clinometer sits on level surface. The results are extremely accurate readings. It is hard to get use to, but once you do it works well.

Price point is fair. Not great especially the sight glass is not very clear.
