Can you use this on 2×9?

I have had this set up for over 2 years with no issues. I run an 11-42 cassette on a long cage Shimano deore RD and a deore FD on a 22/36 gxp crankset

Can someone recommend how to use this and other related components to upgrade a 1990s Trek 930 please!

For a good quality, older bike (like a Trek 930) the main concerns are -

* Bike may have freewheel, rather than cassette on back wheel
* It probably not 9 speed on rear
* It has 26" rims.
* It probably has rim brakes.

Concerning freewheel vs cassette - if it is freewheel you will need to get 
different rear wheel, or at least different hub to accept cassette.

If cassette - some older bikes have short driver body on hub that will not
accept 9spd cassette.  Again - you will need different rear wheel or hub.

So - if you need different rear wheel - two ways to go - entire new wheel -
or just change hub.  Entire rear wheel - make sure you are getting one which
is 26" and will work with rim brakes.  Also axle width important - most likely 135mm
on your old bike.

Alternative to entire new wheel - buy a suitable new hub - and use it to rebuild old wheel.
Maybe get a bike shop to help with this complex job.

Next - shifters and derailleur.  If old parts are not 9spd, they need to be replaced.
Just buy the Microshift parts that go with this cassette - and enjoy.
If they are old 9spd stuff, maybe you can get them to work, or not.

Get a new 9spd chain.  
Old chain will not be correct length, and likely worn out anyway.

Could be a pretty complicated job.  Final result - a nice old bike
with modern drive train should be fun.  Good luck.

I mounted the cassette on a deore 10-speed hub. So, 135 mm.
