These are smaller than the older ones. Buyer beware because you might have to paint the old stained area. Otherwise easy to install and work great.

I thought to myself after installing my smoke alarm, "How do i know its not defective? Even if it beeps when i press the test button, there could still technically be a problem with the sensor." So i tried testing it physically near a small fire (outdoors). When i tested a dual ionization & photoelectric sensor the same way, it went off immediately. When i used this one there was about a 30 second delay before it went off. That's to be expected given a photoelectric smoke alarm's main use is to detect smouldering fires that are yet to have an open flame and tend to have a slight delay compared to ionization alarms outside of this context. These are more ideal for kitchens that are likely to have the occasional burnt meal as you don't want the alarm going off unnecessarily. At the very least i was able to confirm the alarm works as expected of the type of smoke alarm.

I purchased this alarm to keep my family safe in our home in case of fire and so far it has done just that. We test it often and it always tests perfectly. One time our oven had droppings that created lots of smoke and the alarm went off until the smoke was cleared out of the house which proved to us how well it works besides using the test button. I greatly appreciate the easy setup and install and how loud the alarm is when it sounds. I would recommend this alarm for anyone needing a loud and easy to install smoke detector for their home. Despite other reviews talking about the magnet installation causing the alarm to fall, i have not had this happen and the alarm has remained sturdy right where we installed it safely. I will update this review if that ever changes but after 30 days it is still working wonderfully so far.
