I got to use my rain fly for the first time recently. I'm pretty old school and have never used one. I loved it! The campground didn't have trees where I needed them (do they ever), so set up was challenging, but fun! It is meant for a hammock and would probably be better for a hammock than a tent, because of the size. I have a small backpacking tent for two and I had plenty of coverage. But even though it is advertised for a hammock, it worked great with my little tent too! Pros: Reflective lines (comes in very handy at night) Stakes included, although I didn't use them this time out Nice sturdy build, well made Kept the tree sap off my tent Stayed up even in high winds and no damage to the tarp! Cons: None, now I need a bigger one! Bottom line: great purchase for the price, I am very happy!

My go-to tarp for several seasons has been a Kelty Noah 9. I've come to trust that thing, but wanted something lighter, without having to give in to the whole $200+ Cuben solution. This Yukon fly isn't as beefy (probably not as tough) as the Kelty, and it only has 4 corner tie downs, but it does pack down to approximately half the weight and size of the Kelty. The 4 tie-downs are plenty if you only use it for its intended purpose as a hammock cover. For the weight savings, and lower cost, this thing is just too good to pass by. It's got plenty of coverage for any of the hammocks I use, and it seems strong enough after my first few nights. The perfect symmetry makes the coverage feel more complete than an asym, without extra wasted or loose cloth anywhere. I'm waiting to see how the black color does on really hot days, and how well it holds up to high wind and abuse. For the moment, this is my new go-to hammock tarp. I'm thoroughly happy to have cut the weight.

I got two of these tarps for a long motorcycle hammock camping trip with my boyfriend this summer, and they held up nicely. I was buying a lot of gear at once, and after obsessively comparing what felt like every tarp on Amazon I kind of said "what am I doing" and bought the cheapest one that still had the features I needed. Turns out it was a good choice, the tarps did everything they were supposed to and packed up small. (about the size of a can of spray paint.) The tarps were big enough to put all our gear under when we were sleeping without having to put anything directly under our hammocks. The only major complaint I had with the tarp was that it didn't ever seem to get totally taut. The top seam would be taut, and the lower edges would be as well, but there was a large part just below the seam where it was always kind of droopy. This didn't seem to affect its ability to keep the rain out, but it did make the tarp flap in the wind somewhat.

Hiked 7 miles to a campsite in Yosemite and set this up. Started raining and within half hour drops were coming through and getting my down sleeping bag wet. Might of been a mistake of mine setting it up to where gain gathers and does not fully run off but either way no rain should come through a tarp and I was watching it do just that.

I've used this twice now on campouts ... Above my ENO double nest hammock. With a little paracord, this work perfect for keeping super dry. I used it on one Campout in a torrential down pour. My sleeping bag and wool blanket were kept 100% dry. This coupled with some mosquito netting and a double nest make for a very compact sleeping system that easily fits into a backpack. Simple, easy way to camp and keep the gear weight down. I love this tarp. I bought 5 more when it came back in stock to outfit the rest of the family's back packing bags.

I bought this as an Amazon deal to use on my next across the United States trip with my Goldwing and my hammock. Not only as a rainfly for my hammock but also as a camp sunshade during desert sun & moderate winds and as emergency cover should I have to pull off the road in the middle of no-where out west in a severe downpour rainstorm with no shelter for miles. Yep, all have happened on previous cross country adventures. I'm not going to review how well it sheds water. Any $5 tarp will do that...once or twice on a trip. It's how well its built and how it will stand up under constant use. A good inspection of the product will tell me a lot. For starters, it is packed complete with everything you need to use it. A few steel metal stakes, nylon cord and cord adjusting devices that are rust free heavy plastic. The rainfly is made from 190T Polyester PU1000mm material. What the heck does that mean? The general idea is that from 800 to 1000 mm and above (up to 10,000), the material is waterproof. The larger the number the better, as all waterproof coating do eventually wear off, decreasing the waterproofness.( If you want to know:,,, the number itself refers to a water column height measured in millimeters. A 1000mm fabric will withstand a 4+ column of water for more then a minute before a single drop will appear through the fabric. Now that's strong enough to prevent water from leaking through in a 70 mph hurricane force rainstorm.) The PU (polyurethane) coating is one of the strongest and abrasion resistant coatings you can apply to nylon or polyester. That's good enough for me without testing it first to see if it's true. Of course, more coating, more weight which is why 12 x 10 ft rainfly weighs in at 14.8 oz...not bad..less then a pound. It's also a hand wash & line dry item...no machine wash or dry. The grommets that hold this thing in hurricane rated rain penetration also have to be up to the task. This fly is sideways reinforced at each corner with an additional piece of different material, tucked in under the corner seam and double stitched. In addition, before the grommet is put on, a piece of 1" wide nylon piece of strapping is sewn into the corner and the grommet is inserted through that for strength and tear protection. All interior stitched seams are waterproofed as well. Gee, never saw that before. (I've previously bought $5 tarps, that why!) So, another case of "you get what you pay for". So with a bit of care, I think I'll get some extended use from it, hopefully, my moneys worth. And if it fails from materials or workmanship prematurely? Yep, you bet, I'm going to let everyone know. Just got to take care to keep it away from hot pipes and open flame campfires. Also: can't get away from it can we?....made in China.

I'm really impressed with this product. However, I was a little disappointed in the actual weight when I received it. I'm trying to "dabble" in ultralight backpacking, so the exact weight of each item is crucial. I chose to purchase this rainfly because it got great reviews, was the right size, and was very light weight. However, once I received it in the mail, I weighed it on my kitchen scale and it was several ounces heavier than what it was listed for. As far as functionality, the item is great. I used it on a backpacking trip to Great Smoky Mountain National Park a few weeks ago, and it was a perfect rainfly for my hammock.

This tarp would be great at any price, but it's fantastic for what it's selling for here. I have a few other hammock tarps, but this one will be my go-to shelter from now on. The tarp is built tough, and the reinforced corners look like they'll last through a lot of setups and teardowns. Tie-outs are very solid, and the material used for the main section is not fragile. The ridge is reinforced, so you don't need a full-length ridgeline. You can just tie the long ends straight to your trees. I took this out on a windy, 30-degree overnighter and pitched it low to my hammock. It blocked the wind and the little rain that fell overnight, and I was toasty and dry in the morning. The only modification I made was swapping out the included guy lines for some Dyneema Z-Line that I had sitting around. (There's absolutely nothing wrong with the included lines, but I wanted the same rigging on this tarp as on my others for ease of setup.) With the lines switched out and with two titanium tent stakes instead of the included ones, my tarp weighs in at exactly 14oz with in the included bag. It's smaller than a 32oz Nalgene bottle.
