Easy to assemble and a lovely fire with surround but a bit noisy
This fire and surround is self assembly(!) and comes with picture assembly instructions only, no written instructions. Make sure you check off every part once unboxed and inspect for any damage (each part has a tiny numbered sticker) and count all the screws/bolts/wooden dowels, etc. I laid everything out on the floor before starting and took the time to go through the illustrated instructions to familiarise myself with the procedure. I've got lots of DIY experience and have assembled my fair share of IKEA flat pack furniture so although I wasn't daunted by the assembly I have limited mobility as a disabled pensioner which made bending and stretching difficult, and have very arthritic and painful hands! Ideally, it should be assembled by two people but I did it alone and it took me 2 hours as I was also watching TV and having a cup of tea. It's actually a very easy procedure, give yourself lots of floor space and don't be impatient. Just look carefully at the illustrations, which clearly instruct you which numbered parts are attached to which and in the correct orientation, and what/how many screws/bolts/dowels are to be used for each stage. I had to take a break at one stage because I was frustrated that one particular part (part number 11) didn't align with the pre-drilled holes it was to be screwed in to. The end hole was a couple of mils out so the bolt just wouldn't screw in. I ended up removing all the bolts and flipping it around and it fit without any further problems which enabled me to continue with the assembly. I do recall at a late stage of the assembly I had to press both ends of the front of the frame together to get a decent alignment for one of the screws, and that would have been much easier had there been one of us on each end of the surround to squeeze the (quite wide) frame into alignment, but other than that it was manageable, just time consuming on your own. Once the frame was assembled it was easy to lift the actual fire and place it in position at the back of the frame as it's very light. HOWEVER, there are no pre-drilled holes in the frame, into which to insert the screws to anchor the fire in place, so I very carefully drilled my own. So, yes, it is easy to assemble if you are able bodied with good hands, but would be better to have two of you for ease and efficiency. I took my time and did not stress too much. It's worth it in the end, it looks lovely, the fire itself gives off a surprising amount of heat (although I have to say, I think it's quite noisy when the heater is on), and I love the different colour choices for the logs and the LED lighting strip. One of the log colour choices includes all colours in a rotation every few seconds! My last tip is to use a manual screwdriver only, don't use a drill because you could accidentally use too much power and screw right through the frame, which would be a disaster. The lead is around 1.7M and it is affixed to the right of the fire for those wondering about wall socket placement. I've attached photos of sample pages of assembly instructions so you can see what to expect. ** In case you are not aware, the fire will arrive in one box, and the fire surround will arrive separately, in my case a week later. I unboxed the fire and tested it while waiting for the surround to arrive and in the meantime I misplaced the screws which came with the fire and got into a panic when I was eventually ready to fit it into the actual frame, so keep everything safe in case you too have to wait some time for the second package to arrive. **

Spoilt by crappy remote control
Remote control is very cheap, it seems to eat batteries and only works on occasionally
