Why is the 1 in the upper left corner always illuminated? Can it be turned off?

I'm not sure, but my "1" and all of the numbers or symbols are never illuminated. I think I turned off the keyboard illumination as soon as I connected the keyboard. It's been so long ago I don't remember how I turned off the illumination but I do recall that there were instructions on how to turn off the glow.

What are the keyboard stroke combinations used when using the embedded numeric keypad?

This keyboard does not have a numeric keypad. The numbers are across the top of the keyboard and are used without any combination keys. The symbols above the numbers are used by holding the SHIFT Key and pressing the appropriate symbol.

Does anyone experience any lag when typing?

No I do not have any lag issues.
